What do you need to know? They go into the Digital AV port, but you still need to use the analog port for audio.
Its available on back order from the Nintendo America store.
Note you need an older model of the gamecube, dol-001 rather than dol-101 to use it as the new model does not have a digital output

from what I heard GC Component(YUV) cable is for NTSC-J/NTSC-U models only with digital port...

[correction]. YUV cable do work on PAL GC, just there's no prog-scan signal so unless running US/JP titles it's bit pointless me think...

I've got an PAL-E gamecube and an official (nintendo) gamecube component cable (jpn). And it works perfectly. However you can't chose for prog.scan or any function like that on the PAL games...

When you have a modchip in your cube, then you can force pal games on prog.scan. if you have an freeloader you can boot up prog.scan compatible usa/jpn games!

now that is quite interesting, can you force progressive scan on non progressive scan ntsc/us games? on an american cube? if so, do they work ok? or you get slower fps or something like that? because for dreamcast you could make the games vga compatible even if they didnt support it with bin2boot "i beleave that was the name of the utility".

I don't know exactly how the GC works, but I would assume it should be able output progressive scan video without hindering performance. With normal outputs, the GPU would still be rendering the game at 60fps - it's just the video output DAC would "weave" that into 60 field-per-second interlaced video... well that's what I assume would happen...

Yes, that's basically what happens. (Modern) GPUs dont take care of interlacing. Interesting side note: apparently the GC's GPU uses YUV internally instead of RGB like in 99,55% of all other GPU designs.

I know how to use search engines, but more importantly: my question was on topic, and thus I see no reason why asking it is a problem.

Because we are not here to spoon feed you things just because people are too lasy to use google and find your own answer.

  17. If that was a legitimate excuse for not answering a question something like 90-99% of the discussions on this board would have to be closed down.

Anyway, yes some (or all) mod chips apparently do allow you to force games to output progressive despite the fact that the first hit I got when I searched Google said that there's no way to force non-progressive games to display progressive. That was on GameSpot, though, so I knew it must be wrong.

Well the original question was just info on the cable.. the discussion has since evolved. But the initial question was pretty general. The only reason why the thread is not complete crap is due to our great members, and their responses.

"That was on GameSpot, though, so I knew it must be wrong"

classic, I will cherish that quote!
