thing is though, and this is the tricky part, every time i install it, and restart it, i get the lovely message of "no operating system found" .....its been a known and proven fact that sp2 has its flaws with amd64 cpus......now ive never tried using windows with that message... i had very few issues with security.....i visit for the most part, safe and trusted websites............ive run all the updates except that and dx9.0c and im happy with it....

There is no copy protection when importing CD's into iTunes - but you may want to import them as MP3 as they are more compatible, whereas AAC which is the default encoder - AAC is much higher quality, but less compatible.

For tracks downloaded from the itunes music store there is DRM - there aren't any programs to strip this with the latest version of iTunes...yet. But you can always just burn a Cd and then re-import it - this works fine.

thanks....what about some of the latest cds...such as nickelbacks....its stupid as it doesnt allow copying it to a mp3 player......it opens its own media player then allows you to copy to media player, after some 10 minutes of doing some suspicious stuff you can then play it on media player, but not copy it to a mp3 player.........sorry if this is inappropriate

Disable autorun in regedit, or hold shift when inserting a CD.

Alternatively, don't listen to nickelback

i had a look at the contents of the disc, those mofo's made it nice and tight...seems there is a file that must be played before the song in order for it to play.......trying to copy the songs themselves from the disc failed...also there was an un-installer for some kind of digital rights managment, ran it....seems it didnt do anything...........never buy one of their cds again.....it pisses me off...then the industry wonders why piracy is such a big issue

okay back on topic.......im looking to delay my game development....till the holidays...my computer needs a serious clean up.....til then i want to keep researching and fidling around?...anyone else have some more suggestions or helpful tips?

Just start going mods for any popular engine. Good way to get noticed.

  7. Also, ellipses are to be used with only three dots, and indicate a trailing off of a sentence or a thought. They shouldn't be used in place of more common or appropriate punctuation, like commas or periods.

Lol, if you want to get real technicial, you should use an "N" size space between each period ". . . " but that looks teh dumb.

Back on topic, Quake 2 is an awesome engine to play around with. There are plenty of map editors, model editors, and various other tools that are built specifically for this engine. Quake 3 is pretty fun to screw around with too, but you might want to start with something simpler. I know people have played around with the doom engine, but honstly the 16 bit code is written like crap. Carmack has come out and said that he's embarised that he even wrote that. Unreal Tournament is big with mod makers, you get the tools to play around with most of the settings in the engine, but you're stopped just short of actually controlling the engine itself.

visual studio is out of the question for me currently ( see earlier in the forum) but theris a good c++, called bloodshed....used that before..........ive seen the quake2/3, doom1/2 and im thinking i also seen the ut engine released as freeware..........do they come with the tools to mod it, or is it just the runtime code for the engine?

  11. Too true. Actually, I think most font sets have an 'ellipsis' character that seems to usually be the width of a standard 'M' or 'N'. I think it's one of those mystical characters you summon with some combination of voodoo and Alt + Number Pad. Kinda like the UK pound symbol on a US keyboard.

  13. It certainly goes a long ways towards making posts a lot more readable - which in some cases can mean the difference between people taking the time to pay attention or glossing over what looks like a stream of consciousness.

Everyone makes spelling and grammar mistakes, but there are certain courtesies that not only make it easier for other people to read your posts, but they make you look more competent and intelligent as well.

If your computer can play Direct X9 games pretty well at medium detail settings, then get Unreal Tournament 2k4. It costs $20. Hell, I can make you a copy of the bonus disc that has video tutorials for using their level editor. Post your system specs.

    My specs are as follows..
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    484MB 400mhz RAM
160(98 of which are free)GB HDD
    64mb(shared) video card(onboard)
    WinXP
    8xDVD RW, 52 CD-RW(sony)

It was a impressive system last augest, i had read alot of good things about Advanced micro devics, 64bit athlons, and didnt want to be a intel drone, plus i was in dire need of a new pc(i had lived with a 133 for 8 years) im due to buy a new one this summer, as soon as the cash starts comin in that is. Game wise, my system is hit or miss. Max Payne 2, runs great on medium settings, and slows down somewhat on highest settings. Nascar Thunder 2004, runs without a flaw at its highest, older games designed for 98/2000 run okay, some work flawlessly, others seem to really put a strain on the cpu. I purchased BF1942 awhile back(it was a value game) thinking "its the same requirements as all my other games, 1ghz cpu, 32mb vid card, 1gig of hdd.blah blah... But to my surprise, that game caused me alot of problems. upon first installing it booted way to slow, load times were absolute hell, game was wayyyyyy to choppy to play and control was non exsistent. a uninstall. followed by a fresh install did not yeild better results.

As for UT2K4,i've been tempted to pick it up, but after the experiences of BF, im a little spectical, the demo of UT2K3 runs well on my machine though.. For all the junk thats on this machine, i cant understand why it doesnt crash upon startup, oh well ill clean her up at xmas holidays

edit* GreatSaintLouis-i fixed my writing, its more legible now, hopefully people can now understand me :)

Update BF1942, but load times will still be slow because the game is like that.

I hope your motherboard has an AGP slot so that you can put in a decent video card, since onboard video really sucks at anything games, unless its an old one like Max Payne 2 or UT2k3. Get at least a 9800Pro if you plan on getting UT2k4 for level editing. UT2k4 was programmed much better than 1942, so you will see advantages when you upgrade your videocard.

I have a good ebook that couldn't be published due to legal issues with Nintendo. It talks about how to program for the GBA, I'll upload it to the ftp site for you.

Thank you alot!...i certainly look forward to reading it.......as for the ftp?...are you talking about fabrizo's ftp, or some magical mysterious assembler ftp?

oh and i forgot another thing about BF1942, i run my games with a low resolution, im not big on those fancy 1080 crap, 800x600 is good for me.(not like my eyes can tell otherwise) so i ran it at that, the first time it ran well, and then after that, the entire screem would be shifted off to the left, i hate EA games

As for agp, yea there is one free, i've looked, though thats all that will happen for awhile., turns out the big handle on the side of my pc that says "open" should not be opened, and thus voids a good 3 year warranty. I opened, i looked, and no way will i touch for fear of having the sh*^ kicked out of me.

You really should upgrade the graphics card, otherwise that's not much of a gaming machine. :(
