Young Justice Legacy, a game based off a Cartoon Network property, has been cancelled one month before release date http://www.joystiq.com/2013/10/28/young-justice-legacy-canceled-for-wii-u-wii-because-of-severa/ Never heard of a game getting cancelled so short to release date. However there are ports for this game going to pretty much every other console (PS3, 360, PC, 3DS) so the game will be out there. Edit: Should be release in the title
And Propeller Arena for dreamcast. That was cancelled about 2 weeks before its expected release date.
It's mostly because they cancelled the show, when I don't recall WB or Cartoon Network actively try to market the show to everybody up to 35.
It happens all the time. If the show has been cancelled, there's no point releasing a game based on the show. Sometimes if it's generic enough, you can rehash the code into something else. I'd be surprised if it came out on other formats, unless it's been pressed already.
Ncaa College Basketball 2K3 was released for GameCube in limited quantities because Sega decided to cancel at the last minute the entire sports series on the console, because of this the prints were stopped, so it was kinda "cancelled". Plenty of 16 bit to backward games were cancelled when they were complete too, not sure why, I think it was because it was more cheaper and faster to make a game back in that day. Acclaim version of Juiced was already complete too.
Back in the cartridge days the carts were the primary expense. Sometimes it really was more cost-effective to work on a new project than to wait for the returns off a lackluster seller--especially if you're in a situation where you might only break even. They've been screwing over Young Justice for a while now, for no good reason. It's actually a quality show and has won some rewards (or am I thinking of GLtaS?). CN likely decided that action shows aren't the big sellers and put the axe to them all.
Young Justice Legacy got canned? Aw man. I remember pinning for this game back before season 2 began, when I still watched YJ. I guess the reasons make sense though.. I can always buy the PS3 version at least. I've heard of plenty of games canned at the last second, ports included.
The game was released for Xbox 360, so not seeing it for the Wii U is silly, especially how hot Super Hero stuff is right now and that the Wii U is directed to kids/family.
