Hi. I opened up my Game Gear today to see what type of setup it had and I noticed that capacitors C4 and C11 have leaked previously and dried onto the board. When trying to remove it, one of them lifted up with the capacitor, but the other didn't and the top half of the case for C4 broke off. Is there any way I can clean this off the board? (Will supply pictures if needed, but it is pretty self explanatory).
Put the board in a tub full of Isopropyl alcohol or just use a q-tip with alcohol on it. Sometimes if its bad I just soak the board cleans up other stuff gunk and grime.
I would also recommend soaking it. If you want it to get reallyyyyy clean then you can soak it, rinse it off with alcohol and then soak it again for the maximum clean :triumphant: You should be able to watch all of the crap dissolve off the board if you use a clear tub so you will know when it can come out. EDIT: If you ever use this method on something like a laptop mobo that has a CMOS battery or any other type of battery make sure you remove it prior to submersion or else you will fry everything. I killed a laptop earlier this year because I overlooked the tiniest battery. :boxing:
Sometimes I use a soft toothbrush to clean difficult dirt with the alcohol. Also those caps leak so the others maybe are close to the same fate, so take the time and change them all, if they are the original one that comes with the console of course.
I use alcohol the bottom a used match since its made of soft pine it can remove flux residue without damaging the board.
