    Hello all.

I am repairing a cheap Game Gear that has previously had a bad capacitor replacement. Besides from incorrect capacitor values, cold solder joints and not cleaning up the old corrosion, whoever did this managed to lift three pads.

I have cleaned up the board and installed all the other capacitors but I am unsure of the exact connections of the three missing pads.

Can anyone tell me if I have worked this out correctly?

The pads in green are missing of C54 and C55. The red line is where I believe the connections are. I have possibly missed one connections from C55's right pad.

It is a 837-8560 revision Game Gear.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

I'm assuming you've taken a look at the schematics online? It should be fairly simple to figure out how things are connected that way. There are schematics available for the VA0 and VA1

Edit: and all the info you need is here on the bottom right ( look for C55 and C54 and Q8)

Also feel free to post any relevant finds on the gamesx wiki or forum. It's a great database for this kind of stuff

Many thanks. I did have a look, it's where I got that image from, but I am still a noob to reading schematics. But I guess it's time to stop putting it off and really get deep with that. Thanks for the pointer, I should be able to get this sorted. Cheers

Ok, I have been studying the schematic.

So if I am not mistaken the schematic is showing that I was correct.

Negative of C54 connects to the Collector of both transistors.
Positive of C55 also connects to the Collector of both transistors.

Looks correct to me. Glad to see you're learning and good luck with the repair!
