    Hello

If you read my last post asking help about my Game Gear and fixing the caps then you should already know I was trying to fix a Game Gear.
That Game Gear is now dead :redface-new:. Long story short, I broke some pads on one and now it loses stability after a few room transitions.

I have now purchased a second game gear with an acceptable screen. The only problem is that the sound board is dead. I plan to just switch the entire sound board out with the working one on the Game Gear I have now. Will that be a problem if it turns out to be a different Game Gear model then I have? Is there anything that would prevent this (also with the speaker assuming the possibility the speaker is just broken)?

    Thanks

Switching the sound board should not be a problem, they are connected with small cables that you can detach. If you have a different GG revision you may want to check that the pinout match first.

Also, if you have no sound, It may be that the problem is not necessarily on the sound board.

definitely will work, I've swapped sound boards between most of the major revisions without a single issue

OK, I just wanted to know if any GG revisions have a different pinout because I just purchased the new unit and won't be able to figure out the version till then (not majesco though). It is probably fine though and you are correct about it possibly not being the sound board (maybe speaker itself) with the problem

I am currently working on a Consolized GG project and I used a really beaten up GG. It only had sound on one channel and It turned out that the problem was not on the Sound board but on the main board.
Also, another thing I noticed with the GG is that those little cables that connect the various PCB together are composed of Crimped wires and are prone to failure so you may want to check them out when troubleshooting a Game gear. They gave me lots of headaches.

If you are Interested in my current Game gear adventure I keep a work log here :

There's no difference in sound board, so it's fine... but most sound boards will have caps die sooner or later.

Yeah, your right. I went ahead and replaced the caps on the bad one anyway. They were interchangeable though.
