Gamestop in the US is equivalent to GAME in the UK.

There are no large retro chains the in US with anything decent.

You'll need to look local at large flea markets and/or at local online sites like Craig's List (see the deals that skateforjohndoe) has gotten in the CL thread.

Otherwise, you may get lucky with pawn shops, but they have a tendency to be completely overpriced.

Look for locally owned video game shops. They often have have generic names with at least some allusion to video games. These small shops often have a lot of retro stuff at decent prices depending on what you find and so on.

Where I live in Oregon we have this place Called Video Games Plus and they carry everything from the NES to modern day. And at really great prices on modern stuff as well compared to Gamestop and Gamecrazy(which is now out of business)

If you are coming to Hollywood for any reason....

A great place located in a big warehouse. They have everything for Atari to PS3. Tons of hardware usually as well, Good prices on most of the hardware, Expensive prices on some of the rarer games.

It;s a good thing I am moving back to California, now I'll only be an 8 hour drive away instead of a 14 hour drive ha

You spelled my name wrong :)

Ya.. But you have to remember how lame airliners are with their baggage fees.

Craigslist is the best bet. Make sure when you search something, search all the wacky spellings of the item. (like turbografx, turbografix, turbographix, turbographics and such.. also remember singular and plural spellings) At least here in Colorado. Second would be the Mile High Flea Market and thrift shops then garage sales. I've never found anything good at a pawn shop. All of those you can negotiate prices(although pawn shops are very fixed)

And local game shops are the way to go. Where I live there is GameForce GameSource and Game-something that rhymes with those. Oh, and of course, the chains ebgames and gamestop.

Unless you're going to be very patiently hitting garage sales and flea markets in rural/semirural areas, forget about finding anything worthwhile that's retro. If you do find a brick-and-mortar store specializing in retro, they're pretty much guaranteed to be overpriced compared to Ebay or the equivalent.

If I were you, I wouldn't bother trying to do any in-person shopping for games here. As a fully licensed and bonded American, I haven't bought a retro game in person in years.

My local Brick and mortar store has stuff for better prices than On ebay.

Lufia 2 for example , only 25$ when i;ve seen it go for almost 3 times that much on ebay

At the most only something like Dragon Warrior IV is the only thing i've seen go for around 40$ on the NES there

Pawn shops are your best bet. But they can be in dodgy areas of town. Make sure you can drive if you want to explore. The public transport system in the USA is terrible.

There's a chain near where I live called Play N Trade that has some older games, like SNES, Genesis, N64, NES, GG, NES, and even some old Atari games. The prices vary, but they're usually similar to what you would find on eBay, and sometimes better. They even get imported games, occasionally. They had a Super Famicom once.

You're really not making this easy.

Tell us where you're going and we'll tell you where to go.

I mean, if you want to just buy video games and pay through the nose, go to New York or Los Angeles. They're huge cities, and I'm sure somebody can tell you a store in either of them that has their prices jacked up so high that the inventory never moves---thus they have an awesome inventory of interesting stuff (at prices you'd be a moron to pay).

Decent stores exist all over the country, though... For example, I live in Columbus, Ohio (16th biggest city in the USA (believe it folks, we're way bigger than Cleveland or Cincinnati)) and there's probably about 15-20 or so independent games stores in town that sell random old shit. Many of them have high prices high enough so that interesting things don't move too well.

Aim for the biggest cities. More people, more stuff in a tight area.

You also might want to tell us what you're after. If you want an NES, Genesis, SNES, Playstation 1,2 Xbox, Cube, 64 or 2600, all you have to do is stick your arm out they're all over the place here. If you want...I dunno...Neo Geo, Jaguar, Virtual Boy, Turbo Grafx...whatever....well...good luck.

Aside from population, though, there is no best state or area for video games.

Ah, also, be prepared to, you know, actually spend money. In case you're under the impression otherwise, old video games are highly sought after over here too. If you're really just coming here to spend on video games, know that a few hundred is really diddly in the great scheme of things. Might buy you a few interesting lots of games...but it'll go fast...espcially if you're only here for a short time and thus desperate to buy.

If you're in Vegas, the last thing you should care about are video games...

OK, well, I'm sure somebody can chime in as to where the best place is in Las Vegas.

Nomad is a crapshoot. They're not common by any means. Any store that happens to have one around is probably going to charge round a relatively large amount. I'd bet $100+ for a loose one, easy.

Dreamcast stuff isn't too bad. Not as common as they once were, but you can get one easily enough on Craigslist. 25 might get you a system and some games if you're lucky. Games are gonna be shit, though. Decent games are haaard to come by. If you have NOTHING for it though, you can find some basics.

If you're in Vegas, though, hit up the pinball hall of fame. Waste some money there. Expand your horizons and such.
