word has it that GAME stores in the UK might start trading and selling retro games, Am I the only one thinking that this will bump up the prices of retro games and consoles even more than it has recently? I heard that Gamestop in america had the same idea a few years back but did it ever happen? if it did, did it bump up the prices in america? I just think this could go badly for the retro gaming scene. anyone else think this is bad or is it me just being squeeky when I walk?

They bought gamestation who always sold older stuff, likely they still have a bunch of stuff they need to get shut of.

Generally on trade ins they match eBay prices so prices shouldnt shoot up

On one hand it might be good to encourage people with the games in the loft to get them out and sell.....but on the other hand.....it's game, never a bargain to be had there, they will likely be paying bottom prices and trying to sell for the very top end prices, so I understand your concern on it pushing prices up....it could go either way

Getting more copies into circulation would be good, as long as they don't hoard and hold them to ransom for high prices

No, that never happened. I think the oldest system they sell games for is the DS. Until recently they had PS2 games, but I think they've finally gotten rid of those as well. Gamestop sucks in general, so even if they had retro games, I'd still be hesitant to go there. If they had decent prices, it might be worth it. But I don't see that happening any time soon.

lol well that sums it up, did you look at the prices? 14.95 euro (about £12) for a second hand virtua tennis 2 on dreamcast, brand new factory sealed £5.59 on ebay inc delivery, or around £3 second hand......might be worth selling them your crappy old sports games if they think they are worth that price :p

looks like they love the 14.95 sticker though :pthe

worst thing to happen to retro game collecting is the 20 free whatever the hell you like listing on ebay.....expect a lot more £99 BIN super mega rarez mario world for snes

I think their prices are little high but mostly fairly reasonable. Nice to see.

I can't imagine GAME being a viable business to sell retro games. Their trade in and second hand prices are bad enough as it is to make it viable for the public to sell their unwanted retro goods. The whole reason they stopped selling them in the first place was because nobody wants to buy them at such ridiculously high prices, even Granger Games don't sell retro games anymore and they offer the best cash and trade in prices of any retail business out there in the UK. I honestly just don't see it being successful, competition is too fierce especially in the northern region for GAME to take such a huge risk filling their shelves with games even Cash Converters have a hard time selling. The day GAME store shelves are filled to the rim with F1 racing carts for N64 will be the day that business goes bust, just like all the other trade in stores of the UK's past.

It was the morons on Ebay that did the damage to drive up retro prices. The brick and mortar stores while understandably a little higher simply had to follow the market.

BTW: Seeing systems like Dreamcast counted as retro just makes me feel old.

Oh good, yeah they must still have stock all over the place, I got a few good bargains on Megadrive and SNES back in the Gamestation days. My local one had PC Engine/NeoGeo stuff from time to time.

who knows maybe somebody will trade in a old box of commodore 64 games and amongst the games there may be a copy of daffy duck lol.
it was rumored that wh smith received and sold 250 copies of this ultra rare never properly released game. maybe it's just a rumor about the wh smith sold copies but if there is any truth in it the chances are that someone will sell it without knowing what they are actually selling in a car boot sale or game trade in store.
on a serious note anything that keeps retro gaming alive seems a good thing. also recent events on ebay are off putting.

I got a cracking bargain from Gamestation about 4 years ago. Atari Jaguar, boxed + manuals, spare controller in box, 5 boxed games and 2 loose for £25!

I used to work for gamestation and when they stopped trading in retro they basically had a storage unit full of the retro stuff.
in liverpool only 2 stores were doing retro in the end huyton and bellevale.
shame really as my N64 started from gamestation before i worked there .
i also remember CEX having N64 games but that stopped but they are apparently trying it again.
they probably want to try and sell the stuff off as i hate game as a company hence me leaving when they took over.
They will more than likely scalp people on prices too.

I think if GAME do start selling retro games it would actually bring prices down IMO, having another competitor on the market and a major competitor.
Of course they will be in it to make a nice profit but at the same time they don't want games lingering on the shelves all year so I predict they will undercut the likes of eshops, ebay, cex, amazon e.t.c.
May cause a price war and we'll see prices fall sharply, or so I like to think that would happen HAHA.

One more thing, are they going to start buying up retro games because that may be a hard task with shops like cex, cash converters and cash generator already accept retro games and very rarely get them in as it is these days.
Or do they still secretly have a warehouse packed to the ceiling from the days they used to sell retro. :D
