    Hi,

I got my hands on the old gameboy and it had leaked batteries. Luckily not much was corroded and I could perfectly clean it with nail polish remover.

1.) I opened it up to check for further corrosion. But the inside was clean.

2.) It wont start with batteries inserted. Nothing will happen.

3.) I already bought a cheap power supply for it and the gameboy will start. If inserting a game (only got Tetris here), the Nintendo logo looks messed up...(mostly a black bar) different each time and the game itself wont start. But I can hear the sound of the logo.

The contacts for the game cartridge look clean, so does the game itself. What else is there that could prevent the gameboy from starting with batteries ? What else could prevent the cartridge from booting ? Right now I dont have any tools here to check if all capacitors are working. The capacitors all look clean and non blown up though.

Question would be, are spare parts super cheap to get or shall I head for another used gameboy on the bay ?
I wouldnt mind to spend some dollars and learn a bit more about this device. ;)

i remember when i had a GB if the black bar appears the cart isn't being read properly. You may want to clean the pins in the GB's cart slot and Tetris. Deoxit does a better job at cleaning than Isopropyl , you may want to pick some up.

also if it's possible reflow the solder where the battery contacts attach to the PCB , another tip when the batteries are in the GB roll them around to get a better connection with the terminals.

    good luck
