Good day people, After puting my nintendo consoles in my drawer for a couple of years and until recently i feel the itch to play some good O gameboy games, I realise that my Gameboy Color and Advance LCD become damage. While my Original FAT DMG-01 gameboy unit have no such issues. Thus I will like anyone who have information on why Only the Color and Advance LCD cracked while the original fat gameboy lcd has no issue.

An original Game Boy survived the Gulf War. These newer systems, can't do it so much. Apparently they may have been thrown around alot. Did you keep them in a safe place or you crushed them over a period of years?

Hey everyone thanks for the prompt response, no I did not crush it. It just seems to destroy itself.. Singapore temp ranges from 26-32 degrees.. but the Gameboys has always stored in my cupboard.... are u suggesting that humility of my room causes it? Or the poor lcd quality from Nintendo is at fault here?

The GBA seems warped, are you sure there isn't some kind of screen protector that has melted or something on it?

No screen protected is paste on the gba. I realize in Singapore alot of gbc suffer from this crack screen issue. So I guess I am not alone. But typically how long does a tft LCD last?

I have the same problem with my gba and I live in Malaysia. I kept it in a box few years back.when I took it out this year, the screen look scaly like yours and the screen brightness became darker. I will have to buy a replacement screen from zerey. you can look for the gba replacement backlit screen in gbatemp.net

hmmm, strange rite. Same case, singapore and Malaysia is next to each other...could it be our sudden change in climate? rain, sunshine etc...

I don't think that temperature is to blame, 4 of my original GBAs survived that hellish summer of 2010 when Moscow was like one huge frying pan with day temperatures in 46-53C range.
Also my friend forgot a GBA for a few hours in a car and that was a really hot sunny day. It was very hot inside at least above 70C and nothing happened.
Sunshine ? Well if you place GBA near window thing like this can happen - case deformation can crack the LCD. Inside a box and far from direct sunlight - don't think so.
But... maybe Nintendo used different LCDs and some of them had some "self destruct" issues, like heat + humidity - some chemicals react and boom, you got a dead LCD. That's the only logical only explanation so far. Things like this happen from time to time - capacitor plague, bad flux in Fujitsu MPx hard drives etc.

Are you absolutely sure that nothing heavy or anything at all was ever ontop of the consoles? They certainly do look like excessive weight was on the screen. Or maybe a high impact.

Or... Maybe they were screwed too tight or had a bit defective case right from factory, and there was some force applied, for example to one corner of the screen, and with temperature and stuff it started to twist and cracked ? Sometimes it can happen from low frequency vibrations - nearby train, tram, or low magnitude earthquake when screen is already under some pressure.

I found my brother's GBA SP (the one with the ultra-bright screen) from 2005, and it still has a perfect screen. So it can't be the climate as we're on the same island. The unit was stored in a box in a dark storeroom for years, so maybe it isn't too surprising that it still works well.

EDIT: Found an older GBA SP unit too, and it's screen is fine as well.

is there anywhere that sells replacement Gameboy classic and color lcd units? I can only find the screens which are the plastic cover for the lcd instead of the actual lcd units.

If you can't find a LCD you can just buy whole unit as it can be cheaper than ice cream, especially if it's dirty/scratched/whatever, which isn't important since you need it only for spare parts.
