I think that GBA looks sexy like nothing else. Assuming the price is right, I'll definately snag one - I'm intrigued about the removable faceplates thing. Do I need another Gameboy? Aside from the Sakura Taisen GameBoy Color, no. Is it still sexy? Oh yes.
The only thing I'm concerned about is price...while it might work for 50 bucks...I can't see them selling for that much. Somehow I see it coming in around 80 bucks...
For a minute there I thought Nintendo had lost their minds, but then the brilliance of thier marketing strategy hit me. First, it will be cheap. $50 GB mini compared to a $300 PSP. Natch. Second, it keeps a platform open for developers who have already invested in time and hardware so they don't have to abandon thier GBA products. Third, it's the perfect size for kids, as you can easily hide this in the backpack from your teacher, slip it in your pocket when you ride your bike, and if it breaks it's cheap to replace anyway. Fourth, Gen Xers like me who grew up with Nintendo's games are hitting the 25-30 year mark, when suddenly we start making more money and go through this midlife crisis thing. But as a side effect we suddenly go crazy for gadgets. I saw it happen to my dad and now it's happening to me. Cell phones, PDAs, Ipods, Plasma screen Televisions, portable media players, those geo-orbit planet finder things (what the hell are they called again? Damn LSD,) etc. So now the GBA has been reinvented as a "gadget." Everyone will feel compelled to buy one to ward off old age, like a sigil against the evil eye or something. Fifth, the interchangable face plate thing tells me they're also going for the teen crowd, who doesn't have a lot of money (you'll never afford a PSP working at Burger King) and stuff like this has a way of becomming "trendy." As in "Hey look, little Phito got a GB mini with the words "Fuck your mom" on the faceplate, I want one too." Sixth, it uses perfected technology that they can problably manufacture for pennies. They're going to make a killing on each unit sold. Brilliant I tell you.
If this is in the $50 price margin, that's me sold 100%. The ign article said the screen was way brighter than the SP's and that text looked a good deal clearer, so no worries there. That thing is just fucking sexy. While I think Revolution is a bit bland, I think both it and this new GB are the most sexy designs at E3 so far.
I'll get one if the price will be about $50. It's small and cheap, so I will take it everywhere. I payed about $200-250 for japanese import of GBA SP, when it hit stores out there in Tokyo. I have also bought the first GBA on the launch day
Then I don't see much point in producing it, but probably Nintendo knows something I don't. Anyways, I think they should of focused their resources on the hardware side, on development of the next-generation Game Boy.
After seeing those new pictures I also think it's too small. maybe for kids it will be fine but even I think I'll have big problems with the A, B buttons and my fingers aren't that big compared to some other friends who complain about the DS and PSP buttons. Yakumo
Regardless of if that is true then does the manufacture cost translate to retail price, I heard rumours it will cost somnewhere in the $80 range or less.
Wow, that thing is Tiny, I didn't quite grasp how small until I saw that picture there. I don't know if I'd ever buy anything that small...
i absolutely agree. my hands are big. and i don't think they would create a bigger one for me for playing with more ease. and even if they would the micro part of the thing would have been wasted. hell sometimes i think the gba sp is too small for me! IMHO it's just crap guess it'll be canned before reaching europe
The unit itself may be tiny, but you still have to carry a pocket of games around. The machine should have inbuilt storage for at least 10 games plus MP3s.
