Ok, so I have been toying with the idea of taking an old Gameboy Pocket and modding in MP4 player with NES/GB emu inside. I don't think it would be too difficult. Here is one of the MP4 player I have picked out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140511485511&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I like this one because it has a vertically held design and screen size close the the GBP. My concern is the nub control on the Mp4 player. It looks like the same thing the psp uses and I am not sure how to go about hacking that although I have seen it done . Another handheld I am thinking about modding into is this: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Playe...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1304529319&sr=8-1 Again, it has a similar screen size and same emu functionality. I know these cheap Mp4 player do not offer outstanding emulators but if anyone knows of a better unit, feel free to let me know. I really like the feel/size of the GBP and would really want to do this mod. Also it would be great if I could find one of the devices that only has two buttons like the Iwod g10. I can't find that little bastard for sale anywhere.
Not sure you get the point. I want an nes/gb/gbc emu with the form factor of a gameboy pocket. All the other functions are useless for this project.
Rockbox has a Gameboy emulator in it, which is a bit sketchy, but it's there. It only emulates Gameboy stuff, and is SUPER player specific. Ripping apart a GB Pocket, and putting in the MP4 player would (theoretically) seem easy. You'd have to modify the GB Pocket case though, to allow for the power/connectivity ports. I'm not sure about the size though, if it would fit well. Maybe using a GBC case would be easier. Or if you were really hell bent on using a GB Pocket case, you might rip apart a GBA SP (screen and all) put the screen in the case, and the circuitry in it's normal location. There is a NES GBA emulator out there (PocketNES), but I'm not sure how well it works. Oh, also, your first MP4 player (the ebay Red one) only supports NES games, not GB/GBC games. Just an FYI if you were looking more at it.
Yes and yes. Thought about it but oddly enough I don't like the GBC case. I would love to do that but after doing some research, I don't think the GBSP would fit inside a GBP. An SP is a little wider than a GBP and in theory so is the pcb. Nintendo usually packs their handhelds tight, The pic I posted is of one that says it only supports NES but I have come across units exactly the same that support GB as well. I didn't know that about rock box and will research further as it would definitely give me more options. Thanks for the head up.
