I've been working on a lot of broken gameboys and pockets the last months. I put them in the retr0bright tank, switch to a backlight, add a 74hc04 and a new lens and ship them out. But there is two things I don't seem to be able to remedy, making some units junk bin material. A) When removing the back polarizing film, sometimes the glue get stuck on the lcd panel. Those flex cables are extremely fragile today and it's near impossible to remove the glue with isopropyl while keeping them intact. I've seem examples of using tape to rip the glue from lcd panels, but that doesn't work when it's right under the cables. Does anyone have a working technique for this? B) Worse than glue on the panel is when there's black spots on the lcd. Is this permanent damage to the screen or is it somehow fixable? This is not the dead pixel lines you get when one of the ribbon cables are damaged, they are visible with the unit switched off. Usually situated on the edges of the screen. They are also still there when removing the back polarizing film. Also when on the topic, I've been using backlights from nonelectronics up till now and I find them quite good. Sometimes there is pressure point problems, mostly on gb pockets but the v4 gives a very even backlight compared to the v3. How does the 3-led backlights from kitsch-bent compare to the nonelectronic ones?
