I recently purchased a n64 for nephew and noticed while he was playing pokemon stadium 2 there was something called a gb tower. After a quick search I figured out what it was. I am curious to know how it identifies that the cartridge in the transfer pack is indeed a pokemon game and if using a game shark code to modify the way it identifies carts with the intent to play other games would be possible. This is all trivial to me because I own a wideboy 64 ,but I was hoping someone in the community could offer insight on how this works.

I know the guys in #n64dev have ripped it apart to some extent to see how it works but I don't believe there is a known easy way to get it to run other games. IIRC Pokemon Stadium itself contains the ROMs inside the maskrom for Pokemon Stadium and loads up the save data rather than dumping the cartridge every time.

Could be entirely wrong on that though.

Gameshark definitely won't work in the transfer pak. There is no way to make it load to code screen, set the codes, then start it. A flash cart with hacked ROM can work but only the simple type with one game at-a-time and not multi-games cart or Everdrive cart since you'd need to access menu to load the ROM.

So doing a bit of research I figured out that it may only check the header of the rom ensure that it is a pokemon game( I had originally thought that this might be the case as anything more than that would be unreasonable). Here's a video I have found.

I was referring to the n64's gameshark which can apparently alter things in the gb tower aswell as alter thing going on with the gb cart in the trasfer pack. Ie infinite health first pokemon.

Update: I purchased a smartboy cart so that I may do dome testing of my own.
