Hi everybody! I was doing some research about gameboy prototypes and rare stuff and I found this : Apparently it was used in stores for promotion. The gameboy was connected to the adapter and then it was plugged on TV. It's the first time I see this and I can't find any information... Have you guys ever heard about this stuff?
First of all, I think you mean, "adapter" not "adaptater." That sounds like some kind of electrical potato. Secondly, I think this was probably used in those giant Gameboy shaped kiosks with a smaller gameboy in the middle playing on a TV screen. They used to have those at Best Buy and I think they used to have one at Sears where I live.
Thanks for correcting the word, I wrote it the french way ahah! By the way, when you talk about giant gameboy kiosk, do you mean this one:
Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of. The Gameboy would be sticking out of the little hole under the words "Nintendo Game Boy." I always thought those things were really cool. Of course, there are other ways to play Gameboy games on a TV, like a Super Gameboy or a Wideboy, in case you didn't already know. It doesn't make those kiosk things any less cool, though.
We had those things back in the 90's in the local TOYS"R"US (in Germany). It was no kiosk unit though, there was just a regular sized GameBoy, the adapter and a small TV behind a glass wall. IIRC all it did was playing the intro of a game over and over. You could watch it on the small and on the big screen... Later the GameBoy and the adapter were replaced by a SNES and Super GameBoy - the rest stayed the same...
didn't the kiosks also include an overlay on the screen to give it that ugly green and black looking gb feel
I want a giant gameboy now. Badly. How much do the big ones go for? Not that I'd fine one or could afford it, just curious. : ) Regards, npt
