I'd like one of these cables, but how do I get sound out of it? All I see is RGB cables...

    Anyone know?

Neither. The gamecube can only do Analogue. The component cables in the digital AV port only provide video, and you just need to use a standard AV cable in the analogue port, and just not connect the video on the analogue

Theres a really weird GC mod that i have seen floating on yahoo auctions that gives the gamecube optical out.

It looks like some homemade circuit board that needs to be soldered somwhere inside the cube, No idea how it works though.

Too many cables??? it only needs 2, the component for video & a standard av cable for sound.

I have mine set up exactly like that & its well worth it for the jump in picture quality

Yes, double the amount of cables. But if the quality is that much better...

I have RGB right now, but I'd like progressive.

Progressive scan on the cube looks fantastic & even when its in interlace mode its the same quality as RGB.

Although saying that i do know a few people who have had poor results with the component cable due to their tv's doing a crap job of processing the signal.

nearly 99% of jpn games have the progressive scan option. Not sure about US stuff & if your hoping for uk progressive scan goodness you might as well forget it as they took it out over here.

GamesX got a new Wiki(they too :p) and published a detailed guide on how to build that gamecube cable and an audio mod, just like you were saying.
