How can you tell which GC model has digital out from the box? Did Nintendo revise the model number for the ones with removed digital out? I want to buy a Japanese GC, do japanese models still have digital out? Thanks
But is there any way to tell? Boxes usually don't say when the system was manufacutered and theres little chance I'll be able to be picky when buying from a retail store abroad.
Has anyone called Nintendo to find out what you can do if you want the component out? I read somewhere on their website you're suppose to call them and get information on your options. I couldn't imagine it being something other than "buy an older GC"
the gamecubes have differendl dol numbers, mine is a dol-001, you could ask greatsaintlouis for hes dol number, mine has digital out and he's doesnt :smt045
Yeah Nintendo apparently replaces them but NOJ won't replace it for me... Digital out seems liek the sort of thing nintendo would keep in japan.
http://maru-chang.com/hard/en/dol.htm Has a bunch of info on the different types of "DOL" codes and what they stand for. Seems that DOL-101's were made on or after May 2004 and don't have the digital output port, which means no component output. Anyway mine's a Euro DOL-001, has digital.
Excuse these rather n00b post, but what is digital out? Isn't that the port that shoots out the red death ray from the back of the PS2? It's for sound, no?
