I've got a GameCube to Game Boy Advance link cable today. I wonder if there is any software on the Wii which supports the cable? It would be quite funny to play a GBA emulator on the Wii and use the original GBA as a controller
On the gamecube you could do that using the gameboy player and a GB Advance/SP, maybe someones created a GBA emulator for wii and it would work, all you'd need to do if it didn't is remap controls (assuming it supported remapping)
sounds great, but I don't have a Gamecube. I' mainly interested if any Wii game or emulator, etc supports the cable. Unfortunately I haven't found a reference on the Internet. Wikipedia has only a list of GameCube games which supports the cable: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_GameCube_Game_Boy_Advance_Cable
Which is sadly correct, only Game Cube software supports this cable. But it would be great if an emulator would take advantage of it (play your original GBA-cart on Wii? Hell Yeah)
I just thought; it'd actually be much more effort than originall thought. You'd have to create the emulator for the wii, then you'd have to code a program for the GBA to download and run which sends keypresses (or rip the one from the gamecube gb player disc and find out how it sends data). THEN implement sending the gameboy advance file over the cable, and (I don't have a wii or wii sdk so can't check) the GBA cable downloading might only be supported in the gamecube SDK which would then mean... Well, good luck with that if that's the outcome!
I agree, it's likely too difficult to implement such a feature. However I think the GBA GC cable has a lot of potential. Apart from using it as a second screen you could use it to dump GBA cartridges or savegames. Furthermore a utility to write flashcards would be nice too. Lots of old GBA flashcards don't work properly with Win7 64bit, so why don't use the GameCube as a so called flashlinker?
You would need to write software to run on the RAM of the GBA to be sent over before using the GBA as a controller. It's a bit overkill to just use it as a controller, but it'd be nice to see some homebrew using the adapter.
