Remember when i said both the PS4 and Xbox One launches in 2013 were rushed? Guess i was right. This gen started with lots big "AAA" tiltles showing all sorts of glitches and bugs. Now, companies are so afraid of bad publicity, they're all delaying their games. Sometimes more than once. I have no problem with that since i think it's better to actually get a finished product, but it's a very curious situation. Just look at the list: Driveclub - Launched with online problems. "Plus" version still not released Evolve - The delay didn't helped it getting more content. Probably the time was just used for more DLC cap. The Order: 1886 - I didn't helped it in any way. Dying Light Battlefield: Hardline - Promised 1080p. Will be 900p on PS4 and 720p on Xbox One Batman: Arkham Knight The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Tom Clancy’s The Division - After the backlash from AC Unity and Watchdogs, Ubisoft better get their shit together. Uncharted 4 - Sony just lost their biggest console seller this year. Project Cars - Delayed one more time. GTA V - PC version keeps getting delayed. Quantum Break This happens because these AAA games are becoming not only expensive to produce, but also very time consuming. Most, if not all, have to develop brand new engines and that alone takes 2-3 years. At this point is crazy to expect the next console gen before 2020. I know most people complained that last gen survive for too much time, but the 6 year time frame between consoles it's over. Any big AAA game that started development today, won't be out before 2018.
Project CARS is becoming a real farce, and many people will probably be disappointed in it. https://pretendracecars.wordpress.c...clues-hint-at-another-delay-for-project-cars/ https://pretendracecars.wordpress.c...rs-questioning-the-direction-of-project-cars/ https://pretendracecars.wordpress.c...-shit-a-month-ago-project-cars-delayed-again/ https://pretendracecars.wordpress.c...aps-towards-completion-as-release-date-nears/
This is what happens with these increasingly big budget games on hardware that doesn't need to be THAT powerful, and when you really push developers to make games for it rather than pulling out some tricks with the previous generation. The sky is going to have some things falling down. Only new game I give a shaqfu about on console this year is Persona 5. I'm just coasting on PSN sales.
Their bosses are aiming too high it seems. It's long gone when developers was something like decision makers... I think that the television industry have a part too. They really don't need to approach computer levels with televisions. HDMI is just the worst crap that the masses adopted ever. I hope people let hdmi die and adopt display port or something better...
I'm getting annoyed with all the delays with GTAV for PC. I think it's been delayed at least 3 times now. I'm hoping they're not going to delay it again, but I'm not counting on that. It would be nice if it would come out before my birthday, at least. The PS4 and Xbox One versions have been out for months now, and those machines are PC-based; how difficult could it be to port a game from PC-based platforms to PC?
That's a good point. That's pretty much always been Valve's policy. By the way, I wonder when Half Life 3 is coming out...
I'd love for HL3 to come out, so everyone can shut the fuck up about it. Games being delayed isn't a real issue for me at all, it's better than practically downloading the whole game as a patch on day 1.
I agree with you, i even said that on the first post. But that's not what i'm talking about. I'm discussing this gen of consoles being rushed to the market and the production time and cost getting too high. Even though the PS3 and Xbox 360 lasted a long time, the last gen showed that developing these AAA titles is a very hard work, specially when developing new engines. The current gen was supposed to be great for developers, with both hardware and software easier to develop for, but in the end all those games had ridiculous issues at launch or for those who were delayed, had primary release dates that were too optimistic.
The bigger the game is and the more features it has, there is more the risk of bugs and some other problems. That's why simple indy games are almost never buggy.
And the Master Chief Collection, and Driveclub, and Battlefield 4.... Bioshock Infinite, on the other hand, got delayed a few months, and it was a fantastic game out of the box. I don't think the hardware was rushed per se, we haven't had huge widespread hardware problems like the RROD, I'm thinking there was a problem getting developement kits out to studios (I've heard that dev kits weren't finalized until around the big reveals in February of 2013). And of course, with the seemingly neverending push for better graphics, bigger worlds, etc, etc, the amount of people, time, and money to develop a AAA game skyrockets, and with patches becoming a viable option for consoles, some companies have gotten ok with pushing a half finished game out the door to meet the late fall "deadline". I think you'd see games either being released half-done or delayed regardless just because companies underestimate how long a game will take to make, whether or not they have the dev kits in hand.
I think the main reason that GTA V is being pushed back is due to money, Rockstar have made sure it wasn't in the area of release of the PS4 or XBONE to maximize the sales of those versions and they pushed it back until after the heists were released because of more predicted sales. Because if the PC game was released at the same time as the PS4 or XBONE releases then them sales will be probably a lot lower than what the are now. A few pirates make the rest of the genuine PC game buyers suffer and wait.
Yes blame piracy, that's the main reason for everything. My dog pissed on the carpet, because people pirate. All cars should also be limited to 20kmph because too many people speed too. Piracy has been happening for years, and was even on a larger scale back then, than it is now. IE: Taping off the radio, throwing a PS game in a CD Writer etc. The state of games now and dates are all placeholders with no meaning. We could possibly say quality has dropped a bit too.
Gaming now is an absolutely sad state. What am I excited for? Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat X. That's it. That said The only things keeping me gaming are the smaller old school style indie games coming out on PSN. Might no 9, Shovel Knight That elephant game from Game Freak and Sega.
