The older ones that I know of have been covered, recent ones I can think of are the Ryu ga Gotoku games that give you an item if you've got save data from a previous game, Sengoku Basara 3 Utage lets you import all the characters from #3 keeping their current levels (this is really useful) & I swear Hatsune Miku PDF 2 lets you import costumes but I never got to try that because I have a US copy of the first game and Japanese copy of the 2nd.
Space channel 5 part 2, if the game detects a Rez savegame it will unlock a wireframe costume for Ulala.
Ratchet and Clank 2 can access Ratchet and Clank save data so that you can obtain free Gadgetron Weapons.
I didn't know that at all. Kinda makes it seem less interesting. I thought it read the file from the album.
Crash and Spyro on GBA Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons I believe a lot of the Konami games on MSX2 could unlock features by combining the carts from two different games in slots 1 and 2 - I.e. The first game would detect the presence of the second game and unlock something accordingly e.g. Playing as a penguin shaped ship if you plugged in Penguin Adventure or unlocking all tracks in racing games etc
The MSX2 part is really interesting. Kinda reminds of MegaDrive/Genesis Sonic&Knuckles lock-on. Yeah the Zelda Oracles on GBC, communicating through a code you get when you finish one of them that you insert in the other. Could you clarify on the Crash and Spyro GBA part? how does it work? code exchange like Zelda Oracles, 2 GBAs and a link cable? what does it do?
That'd be two GBAs and a link cable. There's another 17 games that use the transfer pak too, no idea in what ways though.
I am quite surprised nobody has mentioned it, but the DragonLance FRUA engine games could import saves from older games of the Krynn trilogy of games. And so could the Forgotten Realms of the FRUA engine from Pool Of Radiance till Pools Of Darkness. The same goes for the Eye Of The Beholder series, and not just that. You could even in old Bards Tale games import from earlier games in that trilogy, and not just that. You could with the game Dragon Wars import BT3 characters. And so forth. Seriously, I first played games in the early nineties. But some of you could or should remember such features from older games too. Heck some of you are older than me, and should/could/maybe would remember it. Or else I have just been lucky remember such things.
Does the monster rancher series apply to this thread? A core part of the gameplay is to unlock monsters by deliberately swapping other CDs (music, games, movies, etc) into your playstation. Not exactly gamesaves, but the games are preprogrammed to give you certain special monsters if you put in certain discs (e.g.: you get a special samurai monster if you put in psx Brave Fencer Musashi)
Vigilant 8 2 on the PS1 would unlock the original maps + extras if you swaped in the vigilant 8 1 disc.
That's a really interesting one. PS to all: Sorry for disattending this. Real life is getting a bit in the way.
According to Gamefaqs Saturn version of Duke Nukem 3D can detect a Quake or Powerslave/Exhumed save and unlock a hidden multiplayer game called Death Tanks Zwei.
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance Gamecube save can be imported into Radiant Dawn on the Wii Also, Mario Golf on N64 and Mario Golf on GB can unlock characters if you have the transfer pak
