While the prerecording theory is a distinct possibility, I'm sure the Shenmue Saturn Version footage was captured at real time... unless AM2 even took the extra effort to emulate slowdown when speeding the end result back up, as I've noticed the average frame rate of that video averages between 12 and 15fps. Considering this was around the same speed as Panzer Dragoon Saga and the fact both "games" (or should that be one game and a prototype?) have similar levels of texture/polygon detail, I'd guess it's legimitate! Of course, there's no way of telling for sure - there appears to be more complex shading and lighting in Shenmue that may have severely handicapped the overall speed, which may explain why no fight sequences were shown. Either way, this is probably a discussion best kept for its own thread.

I think Shining Force III also pushes the saturn a lot.

Druid II, thanks for the explanation, then i noticed that VDP2 thing you said in many games...including of course Shining Force III!!!!!!!!!

J-League Go Go Goal! by Tecmo on Saturn, is pretty impressive being a football game(soccer) running at 60fps, I don't know if there is any other football game from that era that is running at 60fps

Related to Dead or Alive from the Xbox compilation, not that the game is not impressive but as far i know the game was chose because it was the first game produced by Itagaki

How about Savaki on the Saturn? That was made by pretty much a nobody team yet runs at 60fps in high resolution (From what I remember), real time lighting just like Virtua Fighter 3 on the character select screen plus uses the VDP for floors and roof.

EDF is a good game, but it's a very low budget game, not optimized.
The creators preffered to invest in gameplay than graphic quality.

How Indiana Jones on N64 is better?
I've only played the PC version and it was a good game.

While the graphics are better than most third party efforts, Savaki plays far too slow for my taste. Every round feels like it lasts forever, and despite its technical nature the whole thing seems to consist of a few repeated attacks. Maybe those with greater patience can appreciate it fully, but I'd rather stick with the Saturn's arcade fighting conversions for their more immediate accessibility.

Tecmo's GO GO GOAL! , D-XHIRD and SAVAKI, 3 graphical gems, too bad they aren't the best playable thing out there..

Damned 1998...if only Saturn lasted 2 years more! what was to come!

Resident Evil 4 for PS2 probably pushed the PS2 just as hard, if not harder, than any other game on the console. Id also guess that MGS3 would be another one.

RE4 wasn't meant to be on the PS2. it wasn't built from the ground up with the PS2 in mind - unlike God of War I and II especially for example

I understand that RE4 was originally meant for GC, all im saying is the fact that they had to scale it back just to port it ( lower quality textures, no bumpmapping, etc) should mean that its probably pretty taxing on the PS2, correct?? If im wrong let me know so i can slap myself in the mouth :icon_bigg.

Indy still used the same amount of graphical effects (particle effects, etc.) that the PC version used I believed. It really was an impressive game and the controls were a lot better, too since it used Z-Targeting.

Not necessarily. Typically ports to a distinct platform aren't as well optimised as games developed from the ground up for the same hardware. In the case of RE4 on PS2, though, it's pretty impressive on its own merits. I own both the Gamecube and PS2 versions, and while the Gamecube version is inarguably prettier, the PS2 version is a solid port.

I was definately shocked when i played the PS2 port. I was not expecting it to come out looking as good as it did.
