Games who use RAM cart as an option Some games on Saturn use the RAM cartridge as option like Astra, Cotton or WakuWaku. Simple question : what are the benefits given by using of the RAM cartridge in these games ? Visual, reduced loading time..?
More animation, reduced loading time, etc. Though, I found the diffrence to be quite marginal in my opinion. But the 4mb card makes games run like a dream. Though, there is no comparison avaliable since those games only run with the card. But for comparable titles at the time, it makes a big diffrence. I also seem to remember a Japanes game that can use RAM/Memory Card(?) to save speech data so when you play your game you get more voices for everyone.
Marvel Super Heroes uses the RAM cart as an option, the non-Japanese versions too, even though neither cart was ever released outside of Japan. I never noticed any difference, the loading times are still really long and there doesn't really seem to be any added animation.
If you're a real arcade nut of the original game then you WILL notice. just like gaijin Punch can detect half a frame's difference in Virtua Fighter games. Most of us wouldn't have a clue but to the hard core fan it's a big difference. games that require the RAM cartridges are pretty close if not arcade perfect. Street Fighter Vs marvel Super Heroes on the Saturn with the 4MB RAM is astonishing! You'd be impressed if it was on a Dreamcast but on a Saturn!??!! Loading is pretty much none existent, characters have beautiful animation, audio quality is very high and backgrounds are vast with fantastic animation. Street Fighter 3 on the Saturn was regarded as the ultimate version as close to arcade perfect as you could get. That may have changed when the PS2 collection pack came out. Though to be honest, how the hell anyone could prefer the PS pad over the Saturn one for fighters is a mystery. Actually, I'm not quite sure why some say the PS2 collection version is better. can anyone shed some light on to this. yakumo
Yeah, MSH vs SF on Saturn is great, especially compared to the pathetic PS version which even had to cut out the whole tag team feature! Street Fighter 3? You must mean Street Fighter Alpha 3. I think one reason why someone would think the PS2 version is better is that the Alpha Anthology included Alpha 3 Upper with the console secret characters (I don't remember if it had the GBA characters too), but unfortunately there's no World Tour mode.
