I have a book (whose title I forget at the moment) that collects information about fictional geography. Alien planets, fantasy worlds, that sort of thing. Occasionally they'll put out a new edition after soliciting reader feedback, and I thought it'd be interesting to get them to add info from video games.

Anybody know offhand what games from the current era also come with maps? I remember a lot of old PC RPGs would have cloth maps, but a lot of current titles will usually have a paper map included in a regular edition. An American RPG like Morrowind generally has one, and I remember Grand Theft Auto IV had a beautiful subway diagram that looked a lot like the real MTA layout. Can I draw on the collective memory here for some more examples please? I'm thinking of stuff you can get in stores now, Dreamcast-era and later.
Can't think of a single one. Pity, really. That applies to many forms of documentation, actually - remember flight sims that used to come with a couple of pounds of manuals? Nowadays they've often been dumbed down enough to not require any real docs, just a few tutorial popups. I could list a few older titles with extras though, like Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire coming with a small magazine (also used for copy protection) and a map. Tornado, besides a boatload of manuals, had at least one detailed two-sided map (maybe even more, can't remember). Sam & Max Hit the Road included a 3D-ish piece of artwork, and Stonekeep even came with a whole novel. TBH I think that ingame maps, at todays resolutions, are usually a decent replacement - but the occasional physical extra would definitely still be a nice touch, but they'd probably end up only in overpriced collector's editions. Oh and please let me know when you remember the title of the book you mentioned. Sounds intriguing.
Far Cry 2 limited Ed. has a map...but the game is a piece of **** compared to the older Far Cry´s that´s why I sold my limited ed.
Hmm, well as you said, GTA IV, then Morrowind and Oblivion come to mind as well. Another one could be Zelda Twilight Princess, the limited edition game guide comes with a big cloth map iirc.
Not entirely sure, but I think all of Rockstar's sandbox games, starting all the way back from GTA 1 come with a map.
Found the book, it's The Dictionary of Imaginary Places by Manguel and Guadalupi. Prydain, Middle Earth, Oz and Flatland are among the literary places represented in it. My copy is from 2000, so there might be a newer one out now.
Hello everyone, I have noticed recently that many games seem to be getting rid of maps. It might just be some of the games I play. I don't know. Hopefully maps will not get written out of games altogether. Bye. :cur_sonic: :luigi:
