i'm gonna be crucified, but i loved Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. I know that it doesn't have anything with original Banjo (i've played it on N64) but i loved the vehicle construction mechanic back in the day. I supose that if Rare had made the same game with new characters and had named it a new franchise unrelated to Banjo & Kazooie, it could be a great game
I like the two Sabrina games on the Gameboy Colour, nice responsive platform games I got for my daughter but ended up spending time playing myself. They're made by Wayforward who everyone seems to love now so maybe not as embarrassing as they used to be.
the early mario learning games for children really had fun with the letters and numbers games for snes and nes
For me it's probably Yoshi's Story on the N64, the "sequel" to Yoshi's Island. It was just so sugary, syrapy, happy happy, cutesy that it made my teenage self cringe, but the game was really good. My friends didn't understand Another one, that might not really qualify, has to be any MMORPG that I've played since I tend to gravitate towards roleplaying in them, servers, guilds you name it. My group of friends aren't really into roleplaying, so all my stories of those games tend to be about huge RP events and whatnot that are usually met with a blank stare. Sadly, this means that I haven't had a chance for a decent run at a tabletop RPG, would love to though.
Hentai games. Wait let me explain. Japan has a treasure trove of really good video games with that hentai cherry on top. Usually in the Japanese PC Market. The Sharp X68000, The NEC PC98XX and the FM Towns Marty are virtually unknown in the west, which extend to it's games. I just knew about this because some of these games get ported on MS-DOS typically translated to Chinese. When I was young, I saw some CD-ROM's which contain a lot of games, with a combination of US, Japanese and Chinese games. One such game. Reijyu Twin Road : (No NSFW scenes here.) Now with emulation and auto translation programs like AGTH, it may be possible to play these games that would have been lost in time. =) PS. The time I discovered these kinds of games I was in my teens to it so hormones might have also been involved as well. XD
Try being a 30 year old man in a crowded gamestop, asking the girl at the desk for a copy of Shrek 2.
And those darn Fine Bros videos with kids "reacting" to stuff I remember as a kid doesn't make me feel any bloody younger.
Haha just can't help but to laugh at some comments in this thread. Remembered the old days. Donkey Kong 3 and Moonwalker.
I think the only game that I feel embarrassed to really enjoy playing is Ground Zero Texas SEGA CD FMV game. It is the first and only game so far that had me swearing and flipping out because I was getting mad at the game, because at first the blasted game was really hard the first time around. =hugh
Japanese games are always embarassing as hell to play. The most recent "shameful" one that I've played is Omega Quintet ($3.99 promo on PSN), I like the game but the cutesy themes and weird fan service (this on the first 30 minutes of the game, for example -- the character's supposed to be something like 14~16 btw) makes me feel embarassed even when I'm playing it alone. I wish that japanese devs didn't have to pander to the creepy otaku market but that's how they survive on the market, I guess.
The Power Rangers games for SNES (minus the Mario Kart ripoff) were a guilty pleasure for me. It was out of desperation that we rented them and had no regrets.
I thought i was the only one who'd knew about those chinese/taiwanese MS-DOS games! If you need a couple i have a huge archive of them in my google drive account if interested!
