I was able to get my hands on a Gameshark Pro for the N64 (its 3.3) off of ebay. I bought it because I've read on the internet that you need this to unlock wierd things in some games such as: the lost Citadel level in Goldeneye, use a face mapping software for Goldeneye to put new images on the enemy's face, etc. Also, I remember people finding Goldeneye items in Perect Dark, things you don't see in without the device. And then theres Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the wierd things you can find, if you have the gold 1.0version game that is, which I do.

Basically, what will I need to do these things? I looked in the gameshark menu and wasn't able to find anything that might lead to that stuff, such as explore the contents of the cartridge. Is the port in the back serial, or parallel?

  3. Don't forget that you can use the NES emulator Neon64 with a Gameshark Pro. I've never done it myself, so I don't know how easy it is to get working, but it's certainly a *VERY COOL* feature of the emulator and the emulator itself is excellent, too. Seems to be highly accurate as well as very fast (though mapper support is pretty limited, or so I've heard, I've only ever tried a handful of my favorite games with it (hey! like Luigi & The Christmas Quest which I just mentioned in my last post! I love it when things come together) and they all worked fine, excluding some fo the HK pirate originals that use really weirdo mappers).

  4. Madhatter, basically you just need to input the codes into the gameshark's cheat menu and activate them before you run the game. Often, there is a 'master code' that needs to be entered as well. If your Gameshark has enough room, the codes are stored there indefinitely. Of course, you can delete codes from the unit as well, which is what I did - my Gameshark no longer has any cheat codes on it, and instead only has various hidden gimmicks for 007, Perfect Dark, Zelda, etc.

Here's the website for the Citadel in 007 (as well as most of the other 007 codes that are fun to poke around with):http://goldeneye.detstar.com/citadelfound/index.asp. Perfect Dark hacking can also be found hosted on that Detstar site. And here's a site for the various Zelda gimmicks: http://zso.krahs-emag.com/index.html

Thanks for the links GSL, thats what I've been looking for!!

Another question, too. Will these codes screw up my original save files in the game even if I don't load them and instead create a new file to play around in? once I have the codes turned on, are they permanent to where I will still have those special cheats in the game without the GS hooked up? these questions are mainly for PD, GE007, and Zelda.

I remember making my own wrestling moves in No Mercy by splicing animation frames together until it got just right. That shit was pretty fun.

two games: Golden eye and Perfect dark.

  8. I haven't hacked around a whole lot in Perfect Dark, but as far as 007 goes, I'd start a new game if you're going to be using the Gameshark for anything - if you do any weapon unlock cheats, for example, most of them WILL be saved after the Gameshark is removed. I've heard the same for various Zelda tweaks as well.

A huge word of caution: Make sure you have nothing of value saved on Zelda if you attempt any of the Beta Quest tricks on that page I linked to. As half of them require essentially shorting out the cart to access the mode, there's a good chance that your saves will just go kaput.

Yeh I looked at the beta quests and I probably won't try them out unless I find another gold cart at a store for cheap :).

Other than that, I'm having problems using GSCC2k2 and having it detect my gameshark. It basically cannot detect my GS. Also, when I go to Code List, it locks up.

I want to get this working because the code for the Citadel is long and having it done thru the PC is quicker than doing it by hand. Has anyone done this type of thing before? I have Win XP and they say I should use GSCC2k2.

I did the Citadel code through Project 64. It was pretty interesting, after I got the damn thing working.

So how did you do all this, ie, finding out the right codes? Disassemble the game or try all the 2^28 (or something) possibilities?

  14. Madhatter, I could never get the linkup from my Gameshark to PC to work properly, either. Just do the codes by hand - If I could do it, with my short attention span, ANYONE could!

An alternative to look into - although I have no idea if it really works - is the Sharkwire keyboard for the N64: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-64-Sharkwire-Online-Keyboard-N64-New-Rare_W0QQitemZ8216806717QQcategoryZ3580QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It appears to be mainly focused on getting online and downloading codes, but as it's made by Interact as well, I wonder if it would allow you to type in current codes instead of having to use the joystick on a gamepad.

I'd imagine it doesn't - looks like it plugs into a cart, not a controller port, so I would be veyr surprised if it was compatible

    sorry...

I couldn't really tell you now. I did this way back when goldeneye came out and had notes and stuff of all the codes I used and made. I have no idea where or even if I have them now.
