Great, now instead of three choices for games well have only two in the US, Gamestop and ToysRUs. I guess there's just not enough money to be made in the game market to allow for much competition since SonyNintendoMicrosoft fix the prices the games can be sold at anyway.
I'd buy more used games if they didn't gangbang you with stickers. I literally had about 15 stickers on my Deus Ex PS2 box. My "new" copy of Doom 3 had stickers all over the plastic covering. Luckily the main tin box was untouched. I thought Toys 'R Us went out of business? Must only be the ones here...
ToysRUs is having financial problems because of Walmart and Target somehow cutting into their sales. They've closed a lot of their stores to try and stay profittable. This really sucks since Walmart doesn't carry close to the amount of different toys that toysrus does (I have kids so i'm there a bunch).
I've always wondered how walmart is hurting toys'R'us sales. Not only are choices limited in walmart, but the toys and video games are only 10-30 cents cheaper. How does such an insignificant difference in price affect sales? Not to mention ebay, I don't even buy stuff retail anymore and if I did, FRY'S electronics in California is always cheaper than anybody else.
I'd guess its the convienience factor - if you go to walmart for your groceries you may as well grab a game while there as well - it takes extra time to drive to another shop to pick something up. Does anyone know if GAME in the UK is in anyway related to the 2 companies?
Not really, there's alot of other game stores and game store chains here in the US. My personal favorite is Game X Change, though the chain hasn't spread much outside of western Missouri yet. Hence, the statistic of 22% of total game stores for the combined company. Now in your area of the US, you may be limited to those two of course...
you know its funny but toys r us use to be the place to get games, even when babages and software etc were around, still its shocking how much gamestop has conquered, mind you software etc, babages and planet x, plus funcoland got bought out by gamestop, but ebworld is just too much.
Yeah, same here. The Toys R Us had alot of PS2 games amazingly cheap. Here are some ones that I picked up (mostly just to trade in for credit): Arc the Lad: 1.98 Beyond Good & Evil: 3.48 Chaos Legoin: 2.35 Hard Hitter Tennis: 0.99 Primal: 1.50 I got to use two Toys R Us coupons on top of all that. They also had Shadow Heart Covenant new for $19.95 when we sell it at work for $27.99 USED. Besides those crazy deals though... I'd end up buying most of my games from Target if it weren't for my discount at GameStop.
There is a town close to me that has 2 gamestops and one EB games. Does that mean they will have 3 gamestops or what? EB games is all right, but they oversticker the used games. Which they have tons of, btw. How many specialty games stores are there in the U.S., now? I hope we don't get some sort of monopoly or something from Gamestop.
