    Hello Everyone,

I'm just starting to get into connecting consoles via SCART, so I ended up picking this monitor up for $100. Since I'm new to all of this, I had some questions:

This monitor uses BNC, so I was wondering how I'd connect a console via SCART to this monitor? Is the best way to buy a VGA to 5 BNC RGBHV cable, and a sync strike? Also, I had a question about this cable; I noticed that the cable has 5 BNC connectors, but looking at the monitor there are only 4, so how exactly would I connect the cable to the monitor?

Any help you can offer me is greatly appreciated as the monitor is on its way, and I'd like to get all the cables/adapters needed to connect the consoles up to this monitor using the SCART connections.

Also, I'd like to connect my Wii up to the Monitor via component. Would I just have to buy a standard BNC to component cable to do so?

    Thanks again!

I have this exact monitor, as you might already know. You should probably get a cable that has 4 BNC and 2 RCA (for audio). Otherwise, you'll need a passthrough for the audio. Also, a sync strike or similar device with a built-in sync stripper is not necessary for this monitor, as it natively accepts composite video as a sync source. All you need is a simple cable/adapter. For component, all you need is a standard component cable and 3 BNC to RCA adapters. These are very common, and can even be found at RadioShack, although they're cheaper if you buy from eBay or other places online. Lum is correct that this monitor does not accept RGBHV or 31khz, so no VGA or any kind of 480p material. 480i is the highest resolution it's capable of rendering.

Hey I'm glad. Good to hear from us non-480p component CRT owners.

We get the exact same questions really often, I've noticed. I'm considering writing an RGB FAQ of sorts.

Thanks to the both of you for the info. I found a "Female RGB break-out SCART to 4 x BNC + 2 x RCA for Sony PVM Monitors" cable to order, but before I order it I just want to make sure that I don't need the one with the built-in sync stripper. Also, I realize that the monitor can only do 480i, but I can still use the component cables with the Wii and just stick with 480i resolution, right?

Just wanted to say thanks for both of your responses, they were really helpful. A RGB FAQ is a great idea I think, some of this information can be rather difficult to find.

Yes. In addition to RGB, it also has composite, S-video, and component inputs. So an NES with composite will work just fine. It doesn't have an RF input though: for that you'll need a converter.

Cool...I've been eyeballing some on Craigslist lately.

TBH my Samsung CRT is REALLY nice, composite looks sharp, S-Video is amazing and component consoles look perfect.

Would it be possible to RGB mod my consoles and convert that to component?
