I bought a Sega Genesis Model 1 today that included a 32x, power base converter, and 20 genesis, master system, and 32x games. When I power on the genesis using a genesis game I get garbled video. I have cleaned the contacts on the 2 games I've tried and also cleaned the pins on the slot. The start up screen that pops up before every game is booted is also messed up. I don't know much about repairing consoles, but could it be the RAM? Or could it possibly be the power supply? Any help you all could lend me would be great.
I wouldn't jump into big repair conclusions just yet. Does the power base converter with games work? if it does, perhaps there is a trace to the cart connector that isn't doing proper contact. Any close up pics of the board (top and solder side) by any chance?
Ronnie, When I use the Power Base converter, it does the same thing. Garbled video. I have attached pictures of the board, although they may not be very good. Let me know if you need a picture of a certain area. Thanks for your help.
Ah a VA7. I'd start by cleaning the board first (a dry small old/new toothbrush is your friend) some alcohol may help in some parts but these boards are usually soaked in flux and can get messy. Some parts around the board do look a little iffy, check for traces and parts that may have develop rust/corrosion.
