Yeah, well, my mother accidentally knelled on the laptop when she was going through some papers on the floor since she's moving soon.

It's my laptop, just been letting her use it since she doesn't have an adequate computer to use.

Luckily I found a screen on Amazon for around 60, plus 10 dollar shipping, so it's not as costly as I thought it was going to be.

Can anyone on here manage to help me find the schematics for taking it apart and actually getting the old screen out?

I hate replacing the screens in laptops, it's always annoying for me considering I'm usually around my 6 year old brother with autism, and he'll be all up in my personal space while repairing it, haha.

I know you all aren't my personal search team, but I didn't see much come up on Google with looked for it. Originally bought the thing from Best Buy :banghead:, and their crap warranty doesn't cover issues like this, and the manufacturer's warranty doesn't cover it.

So it looks like I'm going to just order the screen and put it in myself, it'll be cheaper than paying some arrogant group of people (Geek Squad) to do it, they tried telling me it would be somewhere around 400-600 to replace the screen, it's so lovely of them to try to gouge people's wallets.

The laptop itself was only about 500 when I bought it, so I'm not paying anyone to repair it.

Anyways, thanks for reading, if you can link me to the info I need to take it apart without breaking something, and putting the new screen in without breaking that, I'd really appreciate it.

If anyone wants to do the repairs for me, I'll buy the LCD screen, ship the laptop and all to you, and pay you for the labor. As long as it's nothing greedy like what GS home of the greedy would charge, I might be willing to let someone else do it.

    I was a laptop tech.

I can do it for you for a much lesser fee.

When did Geek Squad become apple?

This is the problem with Laptops. A few years later the parts are worth significantly more than the laptop when you first bought it. Same for normal PC's really but not as bad.

I tried finding a dissassembly guide. This thread was the fifth result on google for Gateway nv55c03u dissassembly.

If you ship me the unit and replacement screen, I'd do it for $50 and return shipping as a personal favor.

Update: I figured out how to get it taken apart, it's annoying because it makes the front bezel look kind of tacky due to the glossy caps used to hide the screws; I actually thought they may have been apart of the bezel itself, but hey, I guess even Gateway has it's design flaws.

Now then, I'm going to be ordering a new screen later on today when I get back. Annoyingly for me though, there's a little chip in the front bezel too now from where it was furtherly damaged and the screen got pushed in. Doesn't look like it'll damage the new screen though, it'll just look like crap until I find a place that has the dang part in stock.
