Anyone here familiar with the AGS 101 screen mod for the original GBA? I've had an adapter sitting around forever and am trying to get it to work but am having some issues which I think may lie in the adapter. I tested the screen before trying this so I can't see there being a problem with the display itself. Basically the screens backlight is lighting up but nothing else. No GBA splash screen or anything. My soldering looks fine and is obviously working or the backlight wouldn't be getting powered, correct? Do the solder points on the adapter look normal to everyone? I'm using a 32 pin adapter on a 32 pin GBA (board # 10 4-2) with a 32pin GBA SP screen. Anything look fishy to anyone? EDIT: Let me know if any other detailed photos would be helpful.
Yep, we'll need to know if you can hear anything and therefore we would know if it's booting. I know it's a pain, but try removing the new screen and putting the old one in place to check that it still works and that you haven't shorted anything.
Yeah I can hear the splash screen sounds just fine, just no picture. When I get home, i'll make sure the older screen works.
yup, looks like it's still kicking. Any other ideas? Thanks for the suggestions so far! I've also been told that the ribbon cable for the AGS101 screen may be put in backwards (In this photo you can see that they have it facing the other way), but the way I have it connected is the only way that the contacts would make a connection. If I flip the displays ribbon the other way, the screen doesn't even get power to the backlight.
You didn;t put the adapter cable in backward or the new LCD cable in backward? The connector is facing only one side and if either is in backward, no signal can pass to the LCD.
Yeah, i've made sure that the contacts on the ribbon cable itself is facing the contacts on the port on the GBA and vice versa so that the contacts are making a proper connection and therefor facing the right way. The screens backlight will only be powered if it's inserted a certain way and doesn't light up both ways. I'm almost certain I have it connected properly. I do have another adapter on the way and hopefully that one works. I'm thinking maybe the solder points on the adapter itself (the individual pin solder points, not the power wire points, etc.) may be broken or damaged and are not making proper connection to the AGS 101 screen ribbon cable.
