Quick question that many people here ought to know: what was the name (or model number, whatever) of the development device by Intelligent Systems that allows you to play GBA games on a TV? There have actually been a few for sale on the forums, I just can't remember what they're called.

No, I don't think that's it. It wasn't a capture device, just a device that lets you play GBA games on a TV or anything with a video input. I think it had an MultiAV port on the back. I've never owned one, but I've seen lots of pictures and read a lot about them. I also remember that you control it with a modified GBA that connects via a big, SCSI-like cable.

    Wideboy-AGB

There is a version of the Wideboy-AGB that let's you plug in a GBA into the unit and use that to control the game being played. Otherwise you'd use an N64 controller.

I have one of those nifty devices myself. I'd rather have the USB version of it though, anyone want to trade? :p

What difference does the USB version make, just replaces the SCSI bus with a USB port?
Also, what's the SCSI port used for, just upgrading firmware?

It's for up(and down)grading firmware and taking screenshots with a PC application. That application can't record video as far as I know, what a shame..
The USB version does the same over USB + the first 3 of the 8 dip switches are useless, on my unit they are used for changing the "SCSI ID".

Found an old post of me being happy about the purchase and a picture:

Ah, interesting. What's the CN2 connector for? Guessing it's for hardware reset on the GBA?

Yes, the USB version was much nicer and simpler to use :)

Heh, nice. Suprised they didn't make the IS-*-EMULATOR capable of outputting via AV-OUT by itself, woulda meant one unit does both things :S

But then they wouldn't have been able to sell these capture units for $1,700 each (I seem to recall them costing that back in the day) =)

I just read about nintendo's recent huge losses, I really do think that the reason they made money from back in the day is because they charged excessive amounts for dev kits, I know pre-beta GDEVs were like $10,000 or so weren't they? Absolute joke.

Yeah, that was it. IS-AGB-CAPTURE. Does that thing output RGB? I'd love to have one of those.

No, it outputs video and S-video only - like the N64 at its time!

I have a complete IS-AGB-CAPTURE device, here are some pics:
