I have one of the early model GBA it still works but the switch is really lose, it doesn't click when you turn it on and you can actually "over extend" it and it wont come on. As a result you need to slowly slide it till all the contacts align and it will run fine so long as you don't brush up against it while playing. I did quick search and saw some guys remove and replace with a long wired switch (don't want to do) so does anyone know of a replacement switch I can pick up or will I have to salvage one from a broken unit? --Nilats
On GBAs, the switch itself doesn't click; it just slides. The gray plastic piece "clicks" in and out of place in the space where it fits in the plastic casing. In order for the switch to be more "clicky," you'll have to replace the gray plastic switch piece, the corresponding half of the shell it fits into, or both. I feel like it's probably more likely the gray plastic piece (that fits over the sliding switch) is worn out or broken. The "overextending" problem seems more like the switch itself is damaged. I can't push mine past the on position if I try (without the gray piece in place). You'd probably have to get a replacement from another system.
