The GBA Time Machine allows you to play Famicom games on your GBA.

It's an interesting gagdet for the GBA and a similar product is also available for the DS.

However I'm interested in the GBA adaptor. Does anyone know something more about this adaptor?

I would like to know if it's compatible with all Famicom games (mappers) and also interesting would be the image quality. As fas as I know the GBA display has a lower resolution than a Famicom game. Would be interesting if the image is crimped or cropped or whatever.

I've been curious about it as well. It's almost certainly a software emulator, since I don't think they'd make their own entire FC clone with digital A/V output like Wideboys etc. It's possible it has a A/V capture hardware but the hardware would certainly cost more than $40! Since it interfaces directly with a cartridge, I would hope it doesn't dump and emulate the cart, but rather access the cart on demand allowing it to support all mappers. This doesn't sound very feasible though since the GBA is horribly underpowered for emulation and the NES ROMs are too slow for all the optimization needed. I would guess it in fact does dump the games, using a database for detection or something. I say you'd probably be better off with PocketNES.

I thought it's a Famiclone wich uses the GBA as a Video Output and Controller Input Device, just like a GBPlayer or Super GB, only worse.

I remember reading that it massively reduces the battery life of the GBA. I just assumed it was a famicom-on-a-chip kind of affair.

I have my doubts if this was done in software. I suspect if one opened it up its just a big blob of epoxy covering the NOAC. But this item isn't terribly new as it's been around for a fair bit of time already.

so there is not much information about it. That makes it more interesting :) I really would like to give it a try, however not for 40 USD. Anyone knows where I can get it cheaper?

Another "Wise fwom yo gwave" thread! But yeah, the Time Machine is just another Famiclone. I remember when Lik-Sang first had these about 5 years ago - I wondered why anyone would want a device that makes their SP about twice as bulky just to play Famicom carts (which you would also have to lug around).

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot it also needed 4 AA batteries to work
