I think the GBC you linked to is still a front lit mod (albeit well done in the pics) with a brightness adjustment knob. There is a link to this, which doesn't appear to be for sale or even close to being in production. The GBA backlight kit you linked to does allow 5 different levels of brightness adjustment which can be toggled by holding Select and L, by adding a chip similar to the Stealth Dimmer v4 onto the adapter.
