I been using memorex mini dvd-R, for all of my Backup on both of my GameCube. they work perfect, can be a 300 or 200 or 150 it still work. But I start to buy some Full size DVD (ION from wal-mart and Verbatim AZO full dvd from staple), I try to burn them at all the speed that they offer on my PC and my Laptop. I try tweak my GC for almost 2 hours and they never boots, But I found out, if I hold the DVD while it try to read it, ON the third time the GC try to read if I release it, it will start reading the Full Size DVD. Any explication? I use SD media Laucher for booting my Backup.
Stupid obvious question but, you got some modchip or method to boot backups right? If so what chip are you using? Might be the brand of mini Dvd if full size is working OK.

Probably crappy discs. Thing I've noticed about GameCube lasers is that their ability to read various brands at various resistances on the POT varies from cube to cube. I just installed a XenoGC into a cube whose POT was stock at 540 and reads my full sized DVD-Rs perfectly but another I modded earlier this year had to be adjusted from 504 to 320 before it worked reliably. I'd try getting a third brand such as Taiyo Yuden (which I've used for a while now and seem fine). What color is the bottom of the ION and Verbatim AZO discs?
ION, is light blue/purple color, the verbatim, is dark blue/color, little less then my mini dvd-r (those are pretty freaking dark), I load up my memorex mini-dvd And they are made by ritek, but like I said, if I hold the Disc during the boots up, The gamecube try to read for 3 times then after I will just release the dvd, It will read it no prob. I played mario party 5 4 hours straight no dre, and it work pretty good. I gonna try to post a video tonight. ( I just spend almost 80$ in DVD, (more dvd for my ps2, I guess ahah)
I find that the darker the discs the easier and quicker the disc is read. I personally Think its just easier on the spindle motor too to use mini dvd rather then full size dvd.
They may not actually be memorex brand. I bought some that said this but when read from Imgburn they say Ritek G04 in the right pane, which is the most recommended mini-DVD-R for GC.
