I apologise if this is the wrong place for this! Long story short, I've recently obtained a GD-R disc which seems to be a US copy (at least I think it is - Never owned an actual GD-R before), and thus it won't work on my PAL Dreamcast. If I were to get hold of a CD-R (not CD-RW) and burn the Action Replay Boot image ISO on it, is there any chance that I could play it that way? Or would it require a Devkit? Or is it a 50/50 chance it could work anyway? The disc year is 2000, if that makes any difference whatsoever.
GD-R can be region-locked, but it doesn't matter as they won't boot normally on a retail unit. You have to use a swap trick to boot them, see there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsqMLHvyiKU. Now if you use a PAL retail disc as the first one for the swap trick, it'll try to boot the GD-R out-of-region without a problem! Unless if there are region-specific protection on the game itself, but that's very uncommon. Cheers! FG
That is absolutely fantastic, and just the type of guide I needed - Worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch!
