i am buying a GD-R writer of this guy but hes say he is using the device on its own and every time he puts a GD-R in the tray it comes back out, does it have to be connected to the dev kit to stop this?
Erm, well u either need it connected to a P.C or a Dev Kit to be of any use. If it spits a disc out I'd say its probably faulty.
Normally that indicates either the tray mechanism is jamming OR or on more sophisticated DVD drives it will also indicate that the laser is either out of alignment or the type of disc being used cannot be read. Don't have ANY experience using the GD-Writer, but I am certain Drussian would give you some advice (either that or OE) as he actually owns a GD-writer at the moment. As OE mentioned, a DVD drive that spits out disks is never really a good sign.
The GD-Writer usually rejects disc if they're commercial games discs. There's an adjustment mentioned over at Segakatana that allows you to change a trim knob to allow reading of pressed GD-ROM discs, so maybe this was tried on your unit at one time or another and is causing the problem. I'm not sure what the unit does with a disc that's already been written to. Is the seller sure the disc he's using is blank and a GD-R disc?
im not sure if it blank, ill ask him and get back to you. thanks for you help, seemed to be a one off with the drive, seems to be working now.
