I keep on having GD workshop lock my sys because of the SATA controller, it seems the program tries to engage the SATA instead of the SCSI.

Has anyone with SATA gotten the GD workshop to work without locking?
I'd hate to have to hunt down another PC to do some DC dev.

It's not really the same, but my mobo has a raid controller...If i used it the scsi card would fail to work on boot...From my experience these things conflict...

Anyway, when gdworkshop locks up there's a menu coming up that lets you select drives and ccontrollers...try something there, although i think you've done it already...

well...you should check if gd workshop has any config files to force it to use the scsi...

  5. Hmmm I've not tried running the Dev Box on one of my SATA equipped machines, I've always found it best to run this 'old' dev stuff on 'old' P.C's, so it's useful to know that SATA has these issues, thanks.

SATA is RAID usually - so it IS the same issue!

I'd say go for a high end machine of the era... or anything a year or 2 old without SATA... or don't install the drivers!

    I'd disable the drivers too.

  8. You have to install the drivers to install an OS, but you don't have to run SATA as RAID in fact I never run SATA as a RAID setup (This option is selectable within the SATA drivers if you are lucky)

    No you don't - use IDE!!!! ;)

Yes, you can run it as non-RAID... but they are still RAID drivers in most cases - especially earlier SATA boards (promise RAID controller). And, even if he's running off his SATA drive, he could just have an IDE drive on a caddy, and turn that on and unplug the SATA drive.... boot off the IDE drive for doing DC stuff, with a minimal install... including not installing the SATA controller driver :)

  11. ...Yep, thats true as well, in fact there's so many possibilities that it's far easier to cut out the 'modern' P.C altogether and use an old banger that will pi55 the job :)
