Hello folks, I'm GEL. Yes, as in Kinect GEL Ride. Figured I'd use my 15 minutes of fame as my avatar from now on. You can pretend it's a live video feed of me posting this with the Kinect! XD (not that the Kinect works like that. I'd...rather not think about what posting with Kinect would be like) *ahem* So yeah, I'm a bit of a collector. Not the kind that worries much about condition and rarity but the "Playing games on real systems is awesome and it's wonderful to reminisce about the history of the industry and recognize the unique differences between consoles" kind. I do NOT keep anything sealed or purchase anything that can't be played and enjoyed and I think the most I've spent on a videogame was $400 for a Waku Waku 7 cart for my NeoGeo AES. Runner up was a bidding war on Dragon Half for Marty and I did not even know what a Marty WAS at the time! (I lucked out and one came in to my local import shop a few months later) I basically started collecting at a VERY young age because...well...I was obsessed with the game Do Run Run as a kid and I wanted a home port. Found a ColecoVision version of Mr.Do! but didn't own a ColecoVision. Bought the game, tried to make it work on the 2600, began a search through Flea Markets and Garage Sales to find a ColecoVision. Found other consoles I was hoping MIGHT be compatible and bought them. They weren't. Eventually found a ColecoVision, but then I found an Atari 5200 version of Mr.Do!'s Castle and the saga continued. At some point a teacher of mine asked me what my hobby was and with probably 20 consoles to my name I said "videogame collecting" and the rest is history! So I'm familiar with this place but never joined before. Prototypes and the like are generally out of my league. But then I got a message on YouTube. See, I do a little videogame review show called GameBabble as well as make blog posts in the oh so desperate attempt to become a "professional game journalist" (you may now laugh). Well I got a message from ASSEMblerEX on YouTube saying he liked my videos and that I should post them to the messageboard here and well...heck why not, right? If there's anything particularly weird about me it's probably the fact that I actually LIKE motion controls and defend them...but hate the Wiimote with a burning passion. Yeah I always did like gimmicky controllers and Kenshin Dragon Quest and it's successors (Lord of the Rings: Warrior of Middle Earth and Star Wars: Lightsaber Battle Game) made me LOVE the idea of motion control. Was demanding a "SwordCon" (figured Namco would make one for Mazan: Flash of Blade) for the PS2 long before the Wii was even announced. So...yeah. Wii gets announced, I hope for Kenshin DQ on it, they announce DQ Swords, I squeal, get Wii on launch day, question the controller's functionality, get DQ Swords, crushing disappointment. People tell me that Nintendo couldn't do better, I call BS and point to everything that came before, they say those are all game specific, I argue that if Nintendo just flip-flopped the camera and used colored lights it would work, years pass, Sony releases the Move and proves me right and no one cares. Doesn't help that the blasted thing has very few serious motion control games on it so I'm stuck screaming "GLADIATOR DUEL!!!" at the top of my lungs because it's the best I've got. Nope! People are too busy raving about the Kinect instead! Then getting disappointed in it too! So...yeah! That's me! I guess I'm supposed to post the show and probably the Blog to User Articles so I guess I should go do that.
"If there's anything particularly weird about me it's probably the fact that I actually LIKE motion controls and defend them...but hate the Wiimote with a burning passion" I can easily say you are the first person ive ever heard say that. Anyways welcome to the forums im sure you will enjoy this dark corner of the internet.
TL;DR Welcome to AssemblerGames! Though I read about you disliking the Wii's controls, and that most certainly does make you weird.
