Gemini-Phoenix's Sealed 'Treasure'

Pictures below show the creation of the "Room Of Doom" through to organising the games and Dvd's etc. Since these pics were taken i've had to shuffle things around slightly to accommodate some new aquisitions, mainly X360 LE's / CE's and my ever-increasing Steelbook Dvd collection (Which had to be moved due to the weight of them all!)

Also bear in mind that these pictures are now 9 months old, and were taken straight after I finished doing the room up. I have since bought many many more games and Dvd's since (Especially over the Xmas holiday's), and the room looks much fuller now!

You did a really good job with that room, you should add some air filtering/purifying system + temperature control and seal it all with a thick vault door and reinforce the walls. It is indeed a treasure room. You should cover up the vault door with a fake wall and make it a secret room in your house :110:

I know how difficult it can be to collect sealed games. Would be nice to tell us which gems do you have.
5 of each system would be cool.

 

I don't get why one would collect sealed DVDs or CDs. Their value will definitely not increase (except for maybe one in a thousand) and as Assembler said, the seal probably degrades the item after some time. Never forget that especially DVD and CD wrapping are sometimes of very minor quality, even celophane ones. I once received a very early sealed Criterion release (~1998) and had to swap the case because the wrapping could not be removed entirely.

As for games, ok, they generally cost much more than 95% of all the sealed DVDs/CDs and you can of course achieve "complete collections" of one system. But movies and music... that seems more like a pointless hoarding to me. You have a really outstanding collection of games and movies, but it hurts to see that they're all kept sealed and even the really nice limited editions (like the Book of the Dead) don't get the attention they deserved. They did a really good job on that BotD and it's a treasure to every Evil Dead-fan (like me), I can't understand how somebody can refuse to open all of his beautiful, non-value-increasing items

 

Great collection but yeah, have to agree with the others...sealed stuff is a crime against nature.

I might start leaving all my food sealed, pristine condition above living any day.

It's such a nice set up it would be great to have all of those items as usable, invite a few friends round and let them browse the evenings entertainment.

 

Meh, never thought I'd defend this collector but ease off the sealed hate folks. Each to their own. He collects what he wants and loves doing it, so what's the problem? The feeling of getting one of your all time fave games, (or I suppose movies, cds etc) in perfect sealed condition is right up there with any you can get from colelcting. Just like any of you collectors above when that rare gem you've been after lands on your doormat! (That Emit set for example Ave)

That said it's a very sterile looking collection, and I'm certain he's never even played the majority of the titles he has sealed. Which is a shame imo, as loving a game for being a game, not just some trophy, only adds to the pleasure when the doorbell rings (and the dismay when the customs git rapes you for the pleasure!).

 

Fair point, I'm all for people doing what they wish with their money but as you said games are meant for playing it's their purpose in life.

Why not collect something sealed which can be appreciated at face value through the cellophane like painted plates or something?

Aside from the 'sealed' debate, this is a set up I'd love to have myself one day. I'm still renting a fairly small flat so I have games littered on shelves all over the place. It would be great to finally decorate a room and have them on display in one place like that.

 

*sigh* I kind of knew what some of the comments would be before reading them.

If he is happy collecting this way, then that's all that matters in the end. Let's not be like many other forums that try to point out to him the many perceived bad things about collecting sealed games, such as future value, degrading plastic etc. I'm sure he has heard all of it before.

Not to propagate the sealed game debate further, but the games I like having sealed copies of are games that I love, not necessarily games that are worth alot. For example, I have sealed copies of Winds of Thunder, Star Parodier, and Final Zone II. Final Zone II? Yeah! It's a fun game! I have the games I play with and sealed copies as an homage to what awesome games they are.

Actually, the room is North facing (So is quite cool), and devoid from sunlight. There is also no need for air purifying, as the area I live in plus the fact it's a North facing room means I don't have to worry about such things. It has always been a constant temperature in that room since I have lived in this house (7 years), and has no radiator.

Thanks SH! These pictures do not realy do it justice, as there is a hell of a lot more than meets the eye, and you aren't able to appreciate what titles make up the collection from just a few pictures. I really should take some more upto date ones

I appreciate what you are saying, and yes, I do agree to some extent. You have to take into consideration the type of Dvd's I collect though, and these aren't your run-of-the-mill ten-a-penny vanilla editions you find in supermarkets. A lot of tehse are numbered and indeed 'Limited', and hold their value well, many of which are long since deleted and very sought after - The SteelBook Dvd's in particular are very collectable and sought after. Most, if not all tend to hold their price, with quite a few going up in value

As for enjoying them... A lot of my friends have similar editions, which I often borrow. I am able to enjoy them for their aesthetical value just as much this way (Such as the Book Of The Dead), whilst still keeping my very own copy imacculate. In this sense, I get the best of both worlds


In most cases, such as my music Cd's which are sealed, it's more of a case of I haven't yet had a chance to listen to them yet rather than purposefully buying them to collect. However, there are various DigiPak Cd's I have bought for this reason where I may already own a standard version of the original Cd

A lot of my friends have similar collections with much the same editions, so it would simply be like browsing through their own, except my copies aren't dented, dog-earred, or scratched...

I would just like to add that it's no different from those here who prefer to collect solely development, prototype, or arcade board equipment, which is probably right up there as an extreme of videogame collecting, and is equally as much a taboo subject amongst collector's as sealed game collecting...

I have also played a vast majority of the games though, as I do borrow the same games from friends, with exception of perhaps some of the more rarer or obscure titles. Same applies with the Dvd's, where pretty much most of them I have viewed the content either by borrowing or simply from watching on Tv

They're there! In amongst all the rest - Hard to spot, but most of the playable PS2 games are on a rack in the right-hand corner, and the playable Xbox, GameCube games etc are all poked into that right-hand corner shelving unit near the window. The second right-hand unit houses most of my standard edition Dvd's, which half of which are opened. Half of the PlayStation games in the tall unit are also playable, plus there's also a crate of Mega Drive & N64 games not shown in the picture which I keep in a cupboard in my bedroom :icon_bigg

Cheers! It took me quite a few months to set this project up, and i'm well pleased with the end result! After seven years, I finally had the spare funds and time to dedicate to making an impressive set-up which was worth showing off!

Even if they weren't sealed, the sheer quality of the games and Dvd editions included here is still admirable. I have on average 1,200 games, of which about 900 are sealed. I have no idea how many Dvd's are here, but there are over 100 UK SteelBook's which is a feat in itself, plus there's a lot of other LE's and CE's hidden amongst the casual box sets

Yep, goes straight over my head. No point in trying to preach to the coverted, although I did expect a more civilised crowd here at ASSEMbler given the nature of most collection's here...

I saw these pics already but it's really great to see how you changed that room into a gamers paradise. Well - it's more you can see it but don't play with it as most stuff is sealed.

Well, on the house deeds it is classed as a single bedroom, but it's 2x3 Metres, so really has no real use as anything but a small office or (In this instance) a media storage room / Museum. I do not keep any kind of media on display in my own bedroom, except a small stack of my favourite Cd's (Where the rest of my Cd collection is stored floor to ceiling inside my wardrobe, out of sight, out of mind)

And yea, Disney Dvd's are a guilty pleasure of mine, with most being the Limited Edition's of most titles which are too pretty to pass up as a collector - I regret that I was not into Dvd's in the early days when Disney released some outstanding LE's and CE's for their first prints, which are now very sought after and collectable!


I might also add that to most people viewing these pictures, it's just a room full of games and Dvd's. To other collector's, however, it's a room full to the brim of very collectable and rare Holy Grail's. You really have to look deeper to appreciate it for what it truly is...

amazing collection. overshadows my sealed collection a shit pc game for £1 that isnt even on gamespot and WWF Attitude for DC.

 

Man we need glass doors so we can fully admire that collection
