I was wondering, as I already have both Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 for the Genesis (Mega Drive), would it be worth it to get them on the SNES as well? Are the SNES versions superior in any way, or are the Genesis versions better? Or are they about the same? I seem to remember the music sounding better in the SNES versions, but I could be wrong about that. What are your opinions?
The SNES version was ported from the Genesis code. It has a lense flare effect that is not seen in the Genesis code and also more colours on screen. I believe the Genesis one is a bit faster. I prefer it over the SNES version.
here some pix comparisons: never played the game much or liked it really. but i think the SNES version will do it.
SNES version for me and I'm a big Sega fan. The SNES version looks and sounds far better. Both play pretty much the same to me. Yakumo
Depends on what PC version you're talking about. The DOS version is kinda crappy, but the Windows 95 version is really good, much smoother than the DOS one and it's based on the Sega CD version, which means it has CD music and extra levels.
sorry, is the snes version on the left or right? i'm assuming the snes version is on the the right side. the backgrounds seems more detailed to me.
The SNES version is on the left. Here's an article where someone compares the SNES, Mega Drive and Mega CD versions: http://retro-sanctuary.com/comparisons - earthworm jim.html. I found it a while back and it seems relevant here. For what it's worth, I prefer the brighter look of the Mega Drive/Mega CD versions, but can see why people would prefer the look of the SNES release.
Hows the PS! vs Saturn version of 2? I know a lot of stuff was different looking in the Genesis vs SNES ones, i.e. different graphics entirely like on the continue flags etc.
Are you joking? The Saturn version of EJ2 sucked big time! They completely ruined the game. The Sega CD version was okay, but I personally like the original chip-generated tunes better than the CD soundtrack.
For anyone looking for the PC versions: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/earthworm_jim_1_2 Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 for Windows XP and Vista. 5.99USD, available in any country.
I agree, the Genesis version is much more vibrant due to the lower color palette. One of the fewer times when this was applicable, I think.
Huh? Whats wrong with the Saturn one? It plays the same, and looks and sounds better. I like both the CD and chip soundtracks. =) And yeah, GOG rocks.
I'm also not sure what is wrong with it. Seemed just as good as the others but with improved graphics and sound. Yakumo
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH CRAP I wouldn't have known if I bought it myself. ;_; Thanks for that important info!
