Now the Mortal Kombat franchise is about to be sold, I thought it would be a nice time to look back and take a look at some BETA/unreleased stuff.

Megadrive Mortal Kombat 3 VERY early images
As you can see the Megadrive version was already started while Midway didn't decide on the final names for Nightwolf ('Indian') and Sindel ('Lia') yet.

Sega Saturn Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 early images
Various graphical glitches and the PSX version credits when you complete the game. (See the complete story on this early version on my Saturn Odds&Ends page soon).

I have some info on an unreleased version of Mortal Kombat 3 / ultimate / trilogy (can't tell for sure which version of the game was it). A local magazine had some alpha/beta pictures of the game and i can remember a couple of things. First of all, they were several new characters, and none of them was like those incorporated later in the series. And the other thing i can remember is, in the select characters screen of that version, when a player choosing a character, that characther's profile was circled, rather in a square box. Unfortunately i cannot provide any further info, since i've lost the magazine, and all attempts to find it were in vain :(

I just dont understand why the Mortal Combat series didn't continue on to the new generation of consoles.

I guess youve never heard of Deception, Deadly Alliance, Armageddon and MK vs. DC Universe

    I guess so :crying:

I thought MK:DA and Deception were OK. Armageddon and MK vs DCU are terrible however.

I played Deception, which was actually quite good I think. I tried Armageddon, it was garbage.

Well about the thread topic, does anyone have any beta material on MK2? I'd love to see what went on with the development of MK2.

Actually, there is a beta rom of mortal kombat 2 on the snes you can get on the internet.

from what I remember, there are a few graphical glitches but the best(?) thing about that rom is that you can do fatalities during fights. only, when you successfully do a fatality mid-match (they can be stopped if you hit the player doing the fatality, but you can't dodge the fatalities themselves), the fight doesn't end until the clock runs out of time, and since fatalities themselves don't do any damage, if both players have the same ammount of health and the clock runs out, it's game over.

According to my friend who has worked on MK since MK2, the Midway team didn't have anything to do w/the home versions until they decided to stop producing arcade games. Not that this invalidates this thread, but the team that will be acquired had nothing to do w/SNES/GEN/PSX/Saturn games.

Scultured Software did a lot of MK conversions like MK2 SNES and MK3 Megadrive.

Didn't the UK programming company GT Interactive do the Saturn MK3? I remember it was a fantastic conversion compared to the toss that is MK2. By the way, was Saturn MK3 ever released in Japan? I've never seen it here.
