Hey guys. I know there's a great sticky above on preserving historical artifacts, but I'm just trying to get an idea of how some of you guys go about preserving your collections in practice. For instance, reducing light exposure, controlling temperature/humidity, dust, and just general protection of games/consoles. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

First thing I would do is get some light blocking curtains to avoid the biggest enemy of retro collecting: the sun. Ones that block 100% of light, the room should be pitch black during the middle of the day.

I picked up a bunch of light blocking fabric from eBay for about $6 and stuck it to the frames on my window with double sided tape. Not a shred of sunlight gets in, it really messes with people who stay the night at my place! As a bonus, because it reflects the sunlight, it keeps the room much cooler during summer.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into this. This will actually help a lot with the other problem my room experiences: heat. It's the hottest room in the house because of where it is, though I do now have a window A/C unit installed so I can cool it 24/7 without running the central air.
