I picked up an as is Genesis on eBay and after some fuss I got it working but the system itself was filthy. I took it apart and was able to clean it up with some elbow grease and a small toothbrush.. Problem is the reset button was caked with nasty (thinking it is nicotine from smoker). I have scrubbed it off and the thick gunk has been removed but the plastic itself is a dingy yellow/brown shade on the visible surface. The rest of the plastic looks fine. What can I do to clean that up?
Submerge it in a clear glass of hydrogen peroxide. 3%, that is available everywhere, is fine. Then leave it out in the sun for a day. Should turn back to white.
Here's an ehow article on how to remove nicotine stains from plastic - includes step by step instructions with required items: http://www.ehow.com/how_6525974_remove-nicotine-stains-plastic.html
I'm assuming that it is nicotine, I bought it all in an as-is lot system nor games smell like smoke or anything it just seemed like most likely suspect. I'll give that a try.
