    Hi guys!

Picked up an as is genesis off eBay and after a bit of work cleaning it up and all it seems to work fine. But ~ I'm getting a random screen jumping. I picked up a Genesis 1 SCART cable from Retro_console_Accessories and having the cable running into SyncStrike into the GBS-8220 into the RGB-PC connection on my computer. I use the same connection for the SNES and I don't have any issues so it is something with the Genesis.

Does anyone have any idea what is up? I have linked a video.

It appears to be a GROUND issue.

The mod calls for connecting the GROUND from the sync stripper to SCART pin 17.... instead, cut it and connect it to the Ground on the GBS-8220 converter. The GBS-8220 should of come with a 2 pin power cable. I used that to power the sync stripper and to ground it.

That should take care of it... let me know.

I have the sync strike powered by the gbs-8220 red/black cable I'm not sure if that's what you are referring to. I do not want to do some sort of modification to the unit specific to one console if possible, I want everything running through a SCART switch. (If I'm misunderstanding let me know, new to all this)

This picture is running on the base cable into the RCA port on TV, it isn't jumping but it isn't a clear picture there is distortion running constantly on the screen.

I have read that there can be issues with capacitors drying out causing video issues, how likely is that? I bought the console as-is off ebay for 5$ and it was beyond filthy when I got it so I know it wasn't cared for by any stretch of the imagination.
The other thing that it might be, this doesn't initially make sense to me but here it is... I didn't have any cables for the unit being sold as is so I picked up the RCA and the Power off eBay, the power I ended up getting was a cheapo Genesis 1/SNES/NES power brick with two power cables. I have one running to the genesis and had one running to the SNES. When I powered up the SNES I could hear audio from TV that it was on and running but no picture, when I swapped back to the original power supply it worked normally. I don't have another power supply to test on the Genesis so I'm not sure if that is a likely source or not.

Yes.. so, you do have that properly wired/grounded... your scaler should be working fine then.

SCART cable .. shouldn't be the issue - same one I use for my Genesis.

As for the power supply that you are using... I would recommend getting official brand power bricks for your SNES and Genesis.

The Genesis (looked at mine) uses power brick model 1602: 9V 1.2A, negative center. I have a Super Famicom and it's a 10V, but it uses the same voltage as the SNES. The SNES is model SNS-002, 10V 850mA, negative center. Its not a good idea to run a higher voltage through the Genesis than what the system was designed for.

I can't tell what the voltage is on the power supply that you linked.. I'm assuming its 10V for the SNES. I would suggest getting oem power bricks to rule those out. If you are still having problems with the video output on the Genesis ... Sorry, I can't be much help beyond this as I've never had video problems with my Genesis - its an area that I have not researched or worked on.
