after bringing back to life a genesis 2 and change the broken led, I discovered that controller port 1 doesn't work at all, I tried to resolder points but nothing changed.

    player 2 is perfectly working.

    How this can be fixed?

I had a model one, in my case, one of the pins in the socket bent, and well, it took just that to ruin the console, controller was useless.

Real shame too, it was one of the earlier "High Definition Graphics" models. I kept the mother board.

If it isn't a bad solder joint and the connector tests for continuity between the end of the pin and the mobo it could be a bad trace (solder joints can easily break a trace that isn't instantly obvious).

It's been a long time since I've had to diagnose a controller issue but there could be something fried between the port and wherever the traces go off to which according to the service manuals for the VA0 is pins 100-106 for controller 1 of the chip marked 315-5660-R. There are EMI filters on all of the pins and 330ohm resistors on 7 and 9 on both controller ports. There is another part labeled 222 that I can't identify (don't recognize the symbol nor does it have a part designation I recognize as one). Any of these could be damaged.
