I modded several MD model 1 with the help of apolloboy and this community to understand jumpers position, ecc. now I have a genesis model 2 and I would like to put the usual 2 switches for 50/60 and jap/eng but once again, things are different from the tutorials I could find on the web. I have this scenario in which I can see the jp4 and jp2 jumpers which I assume are for 50/60 and jap/eng I found the guide of mmmonkey for md2 at http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/md2switches.htm has a very similar scenario, I think I don't have to scrape the traces as I got the jp4 and jp2 jumpers visible, but really don't know where I have to cut traces, I see R12 to get +5v but not the same GND point anyone could help me? also I would like to know if with this model2 genesis I will have problems with 50hz like with a genesis or a mdjap va7 thanks again dudes
I wish there was an easier way to region mod a Genesis 2, considering pin 107 is SOOO Tiny. Depending on where you live, you won't need the 50/60 mod, ie NTSC-land.
I live in italy, but I would do the 50/60 mod anyway to have more compatibility with games dealin with those little pins aint a big problem, is a struggle but having modded some snes the same way I feel a bit trained, but I would like to know if there is a method using jp2 and jp4 jumper
actually I see that pin 46 and 107 are connected to jp4 and jp2, my only doubt is where I have to cut the traces
A va3 is so close to a va0-1.8 it isn't funny. Mod is about the same. I have a va3 & have sussed the connections, just haven't done it yet (i think, we moved house recently and all my consoles are still packed up somewhere).
Where I have to cut the traces? I really don't understand it cos big part of the guides I found are for pal versions...the jp jumpers are +5v or they are center of the switch?
Do you have a multimeter? Above JP4 see how there are 2 sizeable pads with 4 through holes? These are +5v & gnd (where you can confirm with your multimeter). Whichever one is connected to JP4 on the pad side. The other trace will run off to the asic. Feed your +5v/gnd here. JP2 cut that trace to the right, the trace going up goes to the asic. Feed your +5v/gnd here. To answer your question the JP points in this case are the centre of switch.
unfortunately I still don't have a multimeter (have to buy one...) So I assume I have to cut trace left to jp4 and right to jp2? I don't understand well where to get +5v and gnd, I see on mmmonkey guide he took +5v from r12, but I assume I can take them from the voltage regulator and I'm done
thank you man, I hope this will not have the 50hz fucked up like the va7 model 1s, next week Imma do it
finally did the mod and everyhting works great, thanks for the tips at first I cut the trace left from jp4 (near r73), then I realize I had to cut the one micro track above jp4 under the 4 holes and it was also explained from you guys but I discovered the trace only later....anyway the trace I cut wrongly don't make problems at all (fortunately...)
