I want to hear more about reverse-engineered chips in "white"-market goods. Is this sort of thing common in consumer electronics?
Aah, that'd be the Shinco 868: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=6133 What was odd about it was that it came with 9 CDs of Mega Drive games, yet had Mega Drive hardware internally rather than emulation which I'd thought be easier.
There's obviously endless amounts of NOACs in the various XX-in-1 game pads you see at the mall or other stores. I also saw a XX in 1 thing that plugged directly into your TV that was all SMS games. It didn't say anything about Sega or anything on the packaging, just something about "8 bit games." This was at Fry's and I can guarantee it wasn't an official Sega product.
Here in Brazil, a company called "Britânia" sell DVD Players with a so called "Game" Feature. (27 games on a CD) http://www.britania.com.br/new/ok_index_produto.asp?idProd=251&idCateg=63&idLinha=87 http://www.britania.com.br/new/ok_index_produto.asp?idProd=241&idCateg=63&idLinha=87 These DVD players are probably just "rebadged" chinese DVD players, so these games are probably Famicom, as there is no mention to what they are anywhere in the box or the manual.
I can confirm those are rebadged Chinese DVD players. I've seen the same systems under different brands. Nice added extra though!
