    Hi all,

My Genesis model 1 is being modded for component video among other things and I intended to use it on the 43" Samsung pn43f4500bfxza that's in my dorm room. I've read up on this model and I've seen that people are able to use SCART to component converters with an n64, which is still 240p, and it displays it as correctly as a plasma HDTV can. Does that mean that the Genesis hooked directly to the TV via the component mod will also work? I've been told that if you connect the composite video cable of a console to the sync jack in an HDTV and you get a clear black and white image, that's an indicator that the TV will accept 240p over component.

I've tried it with the pre mod Genesis, a Saturn, and an Atari 800XL. In the case of the Genesis and Saturn, I got a clear b&w image with a purple bar that rolled down the screen. The Atari gave me a b&w image that had vertical lines.

Does this bode well, or should I start scouring Goodwills for a CRT with component?

Sounds like your tv supports 240p via component, you should be fine.
