Alright, I have this burning question I've always wanted to know the answer to but never had anyone to ask. It just occurred to me that this would be an ideal place to do so!
So from what I've read, the use of the game genie disables game saving on the genesis, and in all my games but one this is the case. In Shining Force it seems I can cheat to my heart's content and still save my game, although on all the code sites it states that I won't be able to. What's going on with that? Can anyone else save their game with codes on? Really curious about this.

I have a game Genie and used it with Sonic 3 & Knuckles a lot. Never had problems saving. My problem was having a "tower" sticking out of my Genesis that was unstable as fuck. Slightest breath of air and freeze up. So I put a remote switch on my Genie to solve the biggest part of that. LOL

Haha yeah I hate that too.
I don't know about sonic 3, but Phantasy Star 4 and Landstalker for example won't save with the game genie even attached, from what I read Sega agreed to license it if they prohibited saving. No idea if that's true.

Another option is to just use a Everdrive MD. You can get it as PCB only from Retrogate. That's the personal shop of Krikzz. It supports Game Genie codes and allows for saving even when the ROM has been code patched. Only problem is you can't turn the codes off like on real Game Genie so no codes that need to be turned off to play certain parts of games. (There's a few in Sonic 3.) The Everdrive cost me $78 plus shipping. Save your carts that way since they will eventually wear out from use.
